Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

My hard drive failed and have installed a replacement. My notebook orignally came with windows 7 pre installed on it but when I go to microsofts website to download a copy of windows 7 and put in the product key from the sticker on the bottom I get the following error: the product key you entered appears to be for software pre-installed by the device manufacturer. please contact the device manufacturer for software recovery options.

How do I obtain a copy of Windows 7 that I can download to a usb flash drive?

Hi Steve,

Follow HP expert Paul Tikkanen's suggestion given in here: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/want-windows-7-back/td-p/592555...

Download and make Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit bootable media.

Are you sure you read the thread I posted in my previous reply?

HP expert Paul Tikkanen has explained it.

there is only 1 fix.  (baring weeks of hard work using MS disks)

get the HP media kit.,

get it and do a full install back to day 1.

the HP license is only for you PC< and OEM license is not Retail license, at all.

that means MS does not allow your license to work (cept at the free w10 year, where is converted all mine to w10 for free and now have real w10 MS licenses)

we have answered this 10000 times (its the #1 dead pc, anwer in the world) I help only in the dead PC sections.

and the link even more.

  1. buy kit
  2. load kit
  3. win (back to day1 in minutes)

HP expert Paul Tikkanen's suggestion given in the thread I linked to, has helped many many members coming here to clean install Windows 7 (OEM versions). Did you try it?
