I contacted HP 2 or 3 days ago (online chat). The expert told me that Microsoft has not released win 8 officially; that's why we've not provided new drivers. We'll provide new drivers when win 8 is officially released.

Well that's better than nothing I guess. At least we know.

I was finally able to get a "hacked" version of this going on my HP Envy 14 1050ca. I can't switch between the Intel and AMD card, but at least I have the AMD card working, and can configure it through the CCC. Still waiting for at least a beta version of the drivers HP......

HP dv6 6030ew

Switchblade Graphics:

Radeon HD 6490m

Intel HD Graphics 3000

I've got the very same problem. I've updated BIOS but there is no option to choose either Dynamic or Fixed Mode (which means that my dv6 probably can only work in fixed mode). I am currently stuck with Intel GPU which is very annoying. Can I somehow force my notebook to use only Radeon GPU? Or do I have to wait patiently for HP to finally notice the problem and develop proped drivers?

Anyone? Is there a way to make the system use only the high performance GPU?

And btw:

I have a HP dv6-6190us and I upgraded it to Windows 8 yesterday. I can only use the Intel graphics. I updated the BIOS but switching to fixed mode just gives me a black screen with a mouse pointer when Windows boots up.

This may or may not be related, but I'm also unable to use any of the Metro apps. When I click one the splash screen displays for a second before it disappears again and it doesn't load. None of the online solutions I've found have worked.

you can go to your bios setup and select fixed mode.

Yes I know win 8 is actually released. I've its rtm version. but microsoft should officially announce this case for END USER, then the vendors will provide the drivers.

You can't do this on many laptops including my Envy 14 1050

to deuteros:

I have an HP dv6-6160se. Mine uses only the intel graphics, too. I can install the catalyst but once the installation is complete, it goes to login screen (a green screen with a building) and as I right click on the screen, my account name appears. After clicking on my account, it tries to load, but then it fails and gets back to the screen with the building.

has this problem been solved by the HP support yet ?

Windows 8 has finally been released, officially ...

so when will we get the switchable graphic drivers ????
