@samjambo wrote:For some of us with gen 1 intel core processors its really annoying since the leshcat don't work properly on windows 8( the swtching part is not there, brightness controls don't work). You can't tell which graphics card is in use . I have to disable the AMD card in the device manager so that the brightness controls work. But once you disable the AMD card, windows experience index doesn't work-but i can live without it.
Am really glad i bought this laptop as an ex-display. Guess i will getting another one(still a HP) down the line to properly run windows 8.
The same problem as I faced with. I cannot change brightness level and automatic video card switching does not work.

The reason why i disabled the AMD card was the brightness controls not working. I was just trying out windows 8 and wasn't really keen on gaming on windows 8. Infact thats why i wanted the switchable graphics in the first place-to 'switch off' the AMD card. But since that option wasn't there i disabled it. Once i disabled the AMD display driver ,the option for switching appeared in the intel graphics tray tab. When i tried switching it displayed an error 'could not find powerxpress.....". I think leshcat has already answered my question. In his FAQ he said that he is trying to improve the switchable graphics for generation 1 core processors on windows 8. Also my situation wasn't unique.
But i really liked the Intel HD drivers. The laptop was cooler and quiter.
HPs are much prettier. Thats the only reason i will get another HP.

After a few more people with my setup trying the sp58815 this one seems to have the best feed back from them, for my specific unit. dv7t-6c00, 7690m xt/Intel 3000
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp58501-59000/sp58815.exe
I'm not sure just what the date is on these drivers, or to what HP laptop model they are for, I know they are NOT listed in my dv7t-6c00 support driver page for W8. But as I said everybody with the same setup as mine say they work.
If nothing else shows up this month, I will d/l that one than and go ahead to install Windows 8 just to give this mess a go myself. it seems to work OK for others where I had posted it, the only real problem for most still is that BF3 game, they still complin that it over heats the system when playing that, but that's no problem forme as I don't play that or have any games like that.
BTW I went back to "dynamic" on my BIOS, for the heck of it, (was using my Radeo for everything while connected to wall) and found nothing I use even kicks in the 7690m xt, this is on my W7 with the OEM HP driver, even the games I have. Of course MSI afterburner doesn't work on the Intel 3000. So I'm wondering, just how much can that Intel 3000 apu handle anyway? anybody ever test it?. And this could be some of the "its not switching" problem so many complain about lol, maybe the programs they use just don't require any more video power than the Intel 3000 is capable of.

Yes, I think this is probably the latest driver set for the Pavilion G6 and, as it is working properly with both auto and manual switching, its best to leave it alone at this stage.
Our other HP is a G2 which has an ATi 5470 and the Intel Graphics cards. I have delayed spending another $40 for the G62 as I am not sure if HP and AMD are providing switching drivers for this model.
If anyone has more info on this please post it. Thanks.

I contacted HP by phone
I was told literally : as long as your notebook has a hardware that supports windows 8 which is clearly the case since you are running windows 8 now, then drivers will be available, but when exactly I have no idea. I only know this fact.
What a helpful customer care representative ! He was rather unfriendly.
anyways, I'm sick of trials already, just gonna stick with intel card for the time being till they come up with something official

Hi,
Thanks for the info. Whether its Microsoft, HP, DELL (WOW, you talk about bad service and customers relations) and I am sure others, they seem to thinks that they are some super-god and we have to kowtow to their whims and pay homage! They seem to forget that the world is in a recession and people aren't exactly running around buying their products!
An even bigger disgrace is the complete apathy shown by HP and its total failure to apologize for the mess it has created!
We have three Macs, two iPads and two iPhones in the family and while the "Fruit Company" is very dogmatic and very restrictive about what goes on the products, when there is an upgrade or a new OS it is sold at a very reasonable price and IT WORKS!

You spoke my mind ,
______________
adrynalyn :
are you ok ? been so long since you posted something.
I've tried something and it seems to be working so far, hopefully nothing happens!
I'm sure I've read it on another topic on this forum. Now I have the switchable graphics working with HPs old drivers.
- uninstall your current AMD/ATI driver from windows program & feature.
- Download your allocated driver from the HP site.
- click on install once you have it ready, till you see the ATI/ AMD window opening to install the drivers, the close and end the installation.
- go to your c:/ drive, SwSetup , driver, video " C:\SwSetup\Drivers\Video"
- right click on the setup.exe, and go to compatibility tab. set it to be compatible with windows 7.
- then just click on run as an administrator and start installing.
- reboot. and then right click on the desktop and " voiala " , you get your CCC back and your switchable graphics back, the windows 7 version
I tested it and it worked, when I unplugged my ac adaptor and I was given the old message I used to get on windows 7, asking me if I wish to switch the graphics to save the power
credit goes to someone on this forum ... not me
Make sure you don't update the AMD driver, and let them be for the time being till HP releases the offical windows 8 stuff
