I am the only user to my laptop (Windows 8), with no password--usually I just turn on the laptop and it boots up to home screen. When I boot up today, the screen says "Welcome" then "signing out" and then I'm at a sky blue screen with a date and time on the lower left. The only option is to click on my user profile icon to try to log in again, but it keeps signing me out over and over. The power button on the lower right corner is not clickable. Thanks!

Hi:
Sounds like your notebook has some kind of virus.
Try doing a system restore from Windows Safe Mode (WSM).
Pick a restore point to a time before this started to happen.
There is a trick to get into WSM with Windows 8.
Please see the link below....

I was getting this error message too and was really befudled. I work with laptops and pc's in my job and this was the first time I encountered it. Looked like it was logging on ok, said welcome, then went to signing off mode immediately. So, being the inquisitive guy I am (and getting paid for it) I did what most of us do when stumped...googled it.
I did find some good info at the Microsoft website and it goes like this. Its a bit messy, so take a deep breath and get in a comfortable place.
>Immediately after an automatic sign-off, open a session that will work (probably an account with Administrator privilges).
>Then go to the Event Log Viewer...in Windows 8 that would be -- Start button -- type "view event logs" in search, click the view event logs choice. (Or Windows button - R, then type "eventvwr.msc" in the run-open box).
>Once the Event Log Viewer screen is open, click the "Windows Logs" drop down arrow, then click the "Application" selection.
The middle section of the resulting screen is a list of events, note "Level" and "Date and Time".
Scroll through this list -- in the "Level" column you will see lines with "information" and yellow "Warnings" but keep scrolling until you see a line with a red circle with an exclamation mark and the word "Error" in it.
Double click the "Error" listing to open it and read the description. This should list out the event and\or program that is giving you trouble.
There are several possible reasons for the automatic sign-off. Mine was that I changed the PC Name after joing a domain (using Windows 8 Pro) and then when I tried to add a general user to the pc, it could not find the local administrator account -- because this dummy (me) changed the name. Dooh. Long story short, I reset the laptop to factory condition, applied the correc local adminstrator name, then reinstalled Windows 8 pro, my administrator, and my general user id's and et voila! All is now well.
Whew! what a lot of wind. Sorry. Short version: use View Event Logs to find out what is causing your problem -- then fix it. May need to uninstall something or maybe even do a factory reset...like me.
Good luck, have fun, and remember..."...let's be careful out there!"

Thanks Disregardless!
I was having the exact same problem updating from Windows 8.1 to 10.
