I have a Pavilion dv6 laptop and just bought a new wireless adapter for it (Broadcom 4313GN Wifi and Bluetooth combo - Part # 657325-001). But when I boot up it gives me the message "Wireless module not supported". I've searched around the forums and found other people having the same issue. The most common solution has to do with flashing the BIOS to an earlier version. I've tried every BIOS version available for this model from HP's drivers page, but have had no success. This attached screenshot is straight from the manual for my laptop from HP's website. I've circled the adapter that is listed as being compatible with the laptop, which is the adapter I purchased. Has anyone had success in resolving this issue? Like I said, I looked at the forums and a lot of other people have had this problem.

Thanks for any help.undefined

Hi TheEthernet,

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your wireless adapter issues. I would need the serial number to know for sure what  was installed on you Notebook. Please review the HP Privacy Statement . Then send it to me in a private message.

Please let me know
Thanks.

Hey TheEthernet,

Thank you for the additional information. Here is your part number 537921-001 as per the manual page 25. Yours is not a combo Bluetooth and wireless. Here is a link to restore the BIOS. Please note remove any and all USB devices, and remove memory cards from the card reader slot. Disconnect all non-essential devices. Sometimes this works well.

Hope this helps you.

Thanks.

Okay. But note on page 31 of the manual that you linked to (the WLAN modules section), the adapter that I mentioned (Broadcom 4313GN) is listed under "for use on all computer models". I guess I  don't understand why it's not compatible with mine. I have tried every revision of the BIOS available on HP's drivers page, but with no success.

Hey TheEthernet,

In order for you to see the new hardware you need to restore the BIOS defaults.  Updating does not get it to look at the new hardware it just loads the old BIOS with the old hardware settings. The manual shows those for Combos.  All computer that had combos could use this.

Thanks.

Which BIOS version is the default for this model? The reason I ask is because the later BIOS revisions added a fixed mode option for switchable graphics and I don't want to lose that function.

Thanks for the help, btw.

Oops, I'm sorry. Did you mean restore the BIOS default settings within the BIOS itself? I thought you meant flash the BIOS.

Yes you need to restore the BIOS defaults.

Thanks.

I'll have to try that. Thanks!

So, I went into BIOS setup (F10 at startup) and selected "Load Setup Defaults" (F9) and hit yes (mind you I'm running version F.1B). Exit and saved changes, let Windows boot up. Shut down the laptop and reinstalled the Broadcom module. Powered up again and the same 702 error showed.
