I have tried all the solutions I have read in other posts but I am having same problem. I can connect to the Internet via ethernet, but not wireless. I can't see my wireless adapter in my device manager. I had to get the number from the card itself. I have tried to download the broadcom drivers but the computer is not recongnizing the driver. I have also tried hard reboot and default BIOS but still no internet and the same orange light. I have upgraded to windows 7 ultimate but that was a couple of years ago and haven't had a problem until a week ago. I think it was after an hp update the problem started. I have also tried to reset to an earlier date but still no joy. I would appreciate any assistance you can give.
Info on computer is:
Dv 2740se
S/N[Personal Information Removed]
P/N KC488UA#ABA
Wireless card info
Fcc Id QDS-BRCM1028
IC 4324A-BRCM1028
Replace HP spare 459263-001
I could not find Bios number but device manager said it was up to date.

I got fed up with repeated nonsense like this issue and complicated solutions, and lack of personal help from HP/Micosoft. I bought a Mac this time. Been reduced to tears of gratitude from the help they give me.

Had this problem crop up once again. I found that a hard reset gives a temporary relief, but, like a weed, this problem had roots that kept the issue rising up over an over.
Then I noticed this new icon in my system tray - for HP Support Assistant. Strangely enough, this problem began a few ways before the icon popped up. Maybe it took time for this weed to break out into the sun? Anyway, I knew about this program, and it's complete lack of utility, but turning on automatically and staying on all the time? Like a weed, I never took steps to let this program inhabit the fertile soil of my laptop; it just popped up on its own. Consuming resources and space for other programs that actually do something productive? A plant that does that is called a weed, a program is called malware. I uninstalled the malware known as HP Support Assisstant, and the problem went away.

Unplugging, removing the battery, and holding the power button is called a hard reset. It clears out ALL the memory in various places, so, if a piece of code got transcribed incorrectly and is the cause, then this will fix it. However, if the problem is a bad program, which several HP produced programs seem to cause this, then the problem will return.

Whenever a laptop does this at work there is something that fixes it guranteed everytime. Install hp wireless assistant. If you install that and run it, it will show you that wireless is disabled and you can click to turn it on. If "turn all on" is grayed out hit the wireless button above the keyboard and then you will be able to click turn on. It's almost like these hp laptops get to a state where the wireless button above the keyboard turns on the wireless card but does not enable it, or vice versa and only hp wireless assistant can fix it. Please anyone let me know if this helped you, it has been my go to fix everytime someone runs into it.

I had the same problem.
I've updated the driver - it didn't help.
I have re-set BIOS to defaults and it solved the problem, as AxshunJaxun suggested (see quote below) and it solved the problem.
Thank you AxshunJaxun !
"... You can also try setting the BIOS to defaults (as mentioned above).
1. Shutdown
2. Press the Power button and immediately start tapping F10 repeatedly until you see the BIOS screen.
3. Press F9 once you're in BIOS. You won't see a progress bar or anything. Just press F9 once.
4. Then press F10 to Save and Exit. Yes to confirm.
Then the computer will load Windows normally. Test the wireless button and let me know the results "
