thank you, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!!!!! -Did I say thank you?- It worked, No, it didn't erase my data- and I was seriously beginning to sweat a little. i am relieved. -now, i am still unsure what caused it, but, I am grateful to be able to utilize wifi again.....

I realize this was an old post, but it's the first thing that I've found that worked!
I've had this problem on and off for a couple of years. Sometimes shutting down, taking the battery out and holding the start button would bring the WIFI button back to life but eventually someone would touch the button, or it would just lose it's mind.
Had to plug into my wired LAN to download and install "HP Connection Manager".
After that the settings you outlined, and restarting the Connection Manager instantly turned the button blue!
I'm happy, at least for now!

Thank you so much, the uninstalling and then restaring worked perfectly. I went through the process of making an account just so I can thank you for the helpful advice that solved my wireless f12 key problem 😄

Hi, I am having the same constant orange light WiFi issue as the other users. I followed the step that you gave to uninstall the Network Adapter, but it did not work.
I have an HP Pavilion DV7 laptop.
Network Adapter: Ralink RT 5390 802.11b/9/n WiFi Adapter.
Driver Version: 3.2.7.0
BIOS Version Number: F.17-03/13/2012 (06901100004720000620100).
Please help. Thank you.

I have seen this issue a lot. Most cases going into the BIOS and resetting the defaults will fix it. If that does not work, Remove te battery count to 10 put the battery back in and reset the BIOS back to defaults. This has always worked for me.
