I even gently lifted the wireless key on the keyboard and blew it out just a little with compressed air. (Maybe something's holding the key compressed?)
According to my PC and your steps... I shouldn't be having issues.
But orange light stays on, and no matter what I do, I can't fix this.
Next?
I've got a Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller.

I had posted in this earlier about how removing the battery for a while had resolved the problem for me.
I now understand that the solution that worked for me does not work for everyone. However, I wanted to add that whilst I was having the problem (before I hit on the solution), "Turn Wireless Devices On/Off" was still working (I could sill use that option to switch on/off the Wi Fi).
If it works for you also, then, may be you can use this solution as an interim till you find a permanant fix.

thank you for suggestions posted ..
after trying everything posted and no reply from any hp rep here
i started looking in all forums and came across several recalls on
the presario v6000
after reading one of the issues for the recall
The notebook does not detect wireless networks and the wireless adapter is not
detected in the Device Manager
i called to hp to ask a rep of this issue and does this mean when it disappears
there is no fixing it ?
the hp rep told me there was NO such thing ever on my laptop
and then said i never read it on the internet.

First Service Enhancement:
Laptop Models: HP Pavilion dv2000/dv6000/dv9000 and Compaq Presario v3000/v6000
Series Notebook PCs
Issue:
The following symptoms apply to the dv6000, dv9000 and v6000 series notebooks:
- The notebook does not detect wireless networks and the wireless adapter is not
detected in the Device Manager.
- There is no video on the computer LCD panel or external monitor.
- The notebook has no power and no active LEDs.
- The notebook does not start.
- The battery charge indicator light does not turn on when the battery is
installed and the AC adapter is connected.
- The notebook issues a single beep during boot indicating no power.
- The external monitor functions but there is no image on the notebook LCD panel.
the hp rep then said that my laptop was older and if this is the first issue
of this then i shouldnt complain ..
the laptop may be older but like all of my computers it is like new.
i then asked the hp rep since he was so rude if he could atleast confirm
another recall issue i am reading about for my laptop having a battery that was
recalled due to over heating starting fires ..
again i was told there was NO such thing,
i asked him to confirm my battery is safe and there is no danger of any'
fire starting from it
i was told correct..

then WHY am i seeing my laptop on this list of recalls ?
for hp not to want to fix a defective part is one thing
but for a rep to tell me over and over the battery is not on the recall
and there is no risk of fire and to keep using it ...
i again asked him to confirm there was no recall on my
battery and is of no risk of a fire to keep using this battery.
the hp rep said NO risk of fire..
i then asked of yet of a 3rd recall to my laptop
of this cord on the battery overheating ..
i am not sure what he answered at this point, with his accent
he was very fast talking and HUNG UP ON ME.

@edsilha: Thank you very much. I had the same problem today and I did try exactly that you mentioned. It worked well. Thank you sooo soooo soooo soo much..
A small spelling correction in the 6th step you wrote as Restore defaults (not reset defaults).
1. remove battery and unplug power supply
2. press and hold power on button for 30 seconds
3. leave battery out but plug power supply back in
4. press power on button and then tap on the f10 key immediately (a number of times)
5. the bios setup menu appears
6. select RESTORE defaults
7. select save and exit
And everything is perfect. Once again thank you so so so much.
