I have the HP Pavilion DV6-6150SL (part number LZ479EA) with Windows 7 64 bit. I've buyed the Wireless card Ralink RT3090BC4 802.11 bgn wifi and  Bloutooth to replace the Broadcom 4313 802.11 bgn wifi adapter (without blutooth).

The card is included in the wifi cards supported mentioned in the Maintenance and Service Guide Edition May 2011, but when I go to install the system doesn't startup, and it give me the following message:

"Wireless Module not supported
The system has detected a Wireless module installed in the system is not supported. System halted. Please remove device and restart.

WLAN Module ID (702)"

It appears to be a "whitelist" error, but the card would have to be supported.

I updated the bios to the last F.1B versione, but the problem doesn't solve it.

Someone can help me?

Thanks in advance

FAbrizio

Hi, Fabrizio:

Did you buy the card from HP, or did you buy the card from somewhere else.

In order for the wireless cards to work, they must have the specific HP part number shown in the service manual on a sticker on the card, or they will not work.

If that is what you did, and you got that error, then I don't know what the issue is and you should return the card to HP for a refund.

If you did not buy the card from HP or did not buy it having the HP part # on it, then that is probably why you got the error.

Confirming what you saw in your service manual, link below, you need to order the Ralink RT3090BC4 802.11b/g/n 1×1 WiFi and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR Combo Adapter(BT3.0+HS ready)  HP Part # 630705-001.

You can order directly from HP at the link below.  You can change the country to order from at the top of the page.

Hi Paul, I thank you very much for your fast answer.

I buyed the card on e-bay, not from HP. So I will do a claim to the e-bay seller, because he specifically affirmed that the card is for HP Pavilion DV6.

But I think there is something wrong any way.

One of the reason because I didn't buy from HP is that inserting the part number 630705-001 at the same address you give me (HP Part Store), the part appear not existing.

Only inserting the part number 630705-001 in the HP PartSurfer the system found it, but the associated picture show a Ralink RT5390BC8.

The code is very different, and this is the reason because I prefered follow the Maintenance Service Guide and searching the Ralink RT3090BC4 802.11b/g/n 1×1 WiFi and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR Combo Adapter(BT3.0+HS ready) on the net.

Any way my problem is to found a supported card that should be at least 150 MBit/s in 802.11 N, and have  the bluetooth. So If you have other suggestions, I'll be glad to hear it

Thanks

Fabrizio

You're very welcome, Fabrizio.

Welcome to the nightmare of trying to change wireless cards in HP notebooks!

BIOS whitelists, wrong part numbers listed...

How about this one?

Broadcom 4313GN 802.11b/g/n 1×1 WiFi and 20702 Bluetooth 4.0 Combo Adapter  HP Part # 657325-001

When you enter the part # on the website, it actually reports exactly what is listed in the manual.

I do think that this card's fastest throughput is 150 MBPS, but it will probably normally only connect at 72 MBPS.

Thanks for your suggestion, but I'm afraid that the Combo Broadcom 4313 will run at 72 Mbps like the actual, the only vantage is the bluetooth, so this is not the solution.

I will search some external USB device.

But I have to tell you that I am surprised at the behavior of HP. I was confident of having bought a very good product. Now a little bit less.

Thank you very much for your support.
