I decided to stop beating a dead horse/laptop.  I found a n Acer laptop that had better performance (CPU/Ram) than the DV6000 for under $400.

FWIW.

System: DV-6 / Win7

Problem: Orange light on wireless for HP DV-6. Push button on/off - doesn't change anything. Seems to have just randomly happened.

Fix: System Restore to a time before last Windows Update.  Blue light turns on, wireless working.

Note: I did try the no power/no battery/ hold power button for 20 seconds trick first, and the light stayed orange

Thoughts: There are several culprits for the same orange light

1. Bad driver / system update - windows updates and breaks the driver for the wireless card. Restoring back before bad update will fix.

2.  Bad connection or dirty connection between the wireless card and the laptop. Removing the wireless car, cleaning those contacts, and replacing the card will fix.

3.  Bad motherboard.  Having motherboard replaced will fix.  Buying a usb WiFi dongle is cheaper.

Hope it helps!

Well, the best thing to do is this!

1. Grab your HP Laptop

2. Get to a secure location

3. Place some C-4 on it

4. Blow it up

5. Go to the nearest Appel reseller and buy a real Laptop 🙂

But hey, thats just what i would do 😉

( push power button once to get the laptop into sleep mode, then push it back and immediately tap the wireless icon like CRAZILY, and guess what, it went blue again, couldnt be happier haha)  thanks a lot! I didnt expect it to work but I tried my luck haha and it worked like a charm!! I believe this trick work for everyone too!

HP has really screwed up this time.

Their customer service is known around the world as dreadful. They don't fix any of the problems, they just screw everything up more, and make you pay for it.

My sister asked me to look at her laptop when it stopped connecting to the internet wirelessly.

I researched it and so far all I've found is people saying that HP has done NOTHING to resolve the problems with these computers. This is extremely frustrating and as a warning to everyone:

NEVER BUY FROM HP.

I can't believe the idiots that designed this laptop didn't make it an option to be able to turn it on/off from within the control panel or some other location inside windows...

i tried this, very clever, however my computer won't let me adjust the settings for wireless in there unless my wireless switch is on. fml.
