Hello, it sounds like i am having the same problem as you with the wirelss not working. I am having my laptop shipped into hp and having them find out what is wrong with mine. If I find anything out, I will let you know!
Good Luck!

Which OS do you have installed?
What is the exact model name and number of your laptop?
Did this issue begin after a Windows update? IF so, you can remove the updates individually from within the Control panel --> Prrgorams and Features (Vista) or Install or Remove Programs and Windows Components (Win XP)

If the led is switching between colors that would indicate that the problem is very likely software or a misconfigured wireless adapter. Check your notebook.s support page and look at drivers and downloads to see if there is a SoftPaq out that addresses the issue. That could be also the case.
Have you verified that your adapter's SSID is the same as your Router's and the channel is set to automatic and that the security settings match those of the router. A few things to check.
Have you checked in Services to see if the WLANAutoconfig is started and set to automatic?

Dayle,
No matter what anyone tells you otherwise; this is not a driver issue. This is not an Windows XP (Software) issue. restores, reformat, nothing will help. This is a hardware issue. See for those of you who know the OSI model of networking will agree that if it's at the hardware level, then you can't solve the problem with drivers or whatnot. This is the same thing I am experiencing on my laptop and after a lengthy tireless (useless) conversation with HP I got an external wifi adapter. Works great.
If someone tells you to reinstall drivers, laugh at them and tell them that it's a hardware issue. You can't fix that with software, it has to be replaced. Either the motherboard, with wifi internal card or both.

what you really need to do is go to http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01087277#c01087277_identify and see if your laptop product number and model matches the numbers on there and if it does you need to call HP and tell then that your laptop is having wirless issues and tell them that you see the limited warranty service enhancement... then will get some info from you then they will send you a box and you send them your laptop and they fix it free of charge!! what the problem is.. is that your motherboard is having issues causing the laptop to overheat which also has something to do with poor battery life.. if your laptop is on this website i provided you..CALL HP THEY WILL FIX IT!
thankss. let me know if this helped anybody.

Thank you for your post chance, this information was highly usefull as I knew the problem was hardware caused. The laptop ended up being under a limmited warranty for overheating issues and is a free fix rather than buying a new wifi adapter.
