my elitebook  840 G4 shuts down at 73% when unplugged and i recently changed the battery

Since the battery was recently replaced and the notebook shuts down abruptly at 73% when the AC adapter is unplugged, let's start by checking whether the issue is related to battery calibration, BIOS communication with the battery, or a hardware issue with the replacement battery.

A few questions first:

• Is the replacement battery a genuine HP battery or a third-party battery?
• Does the notebook shut down consistently at 73%, or does the percentage vary?
• Does the notebook work normally when connected to AC power?
• Have you run the HP Hardware Diagnostics Battery Test since replacing the battery?
• Did the issue start immediately after the battery replacement, or did it begin later?
• Are there any battery-related warnings or messages in Windows or during startup?

Please try the following:

1. Perform a BIOS Recovery. A BIOS issue can sometimes cause incorrect battery reporting and unexpected shutdowns.

• Turn the notebook off.
• Connect the AC adapter.
• Press and hold Windows + B.
• While holding those keys, press and hold the Power button for 2–3 seconds.
• Release the Power button but continue holding Windows + B until the BIOS Recovery screen appears.
• Follow the on-screen prompts.

2. Calibrate the Battery: This helps the system accurately detect the battery's true capacity.

• Charge the battery to 100%.
• Leave it connected to the charger for an additional 2 hours.
• Disconnect the charger and use the notebook until the battery drains and powers off.
• Recharge it uninterrupted back to 100%. Try this 3 times.

3. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

• Turn the notebook off.
• Repeatedly tap Esc during startup.
• Press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
• Select Component Tests > Power > Battery.
• Run the Battery Test and any available Battery Calibration option.
• If the test reports a failure, note the Failure ID and share it here.
