My hp 255 G4 laptop hard drive crashed a few nights ago. Purchased 9/2016. Windows 10 / 500GB HDD. I now have error message saying Boot device not found please install new OS on hard disk. I installed a new solid state hard drive today and after it passed testing, still get same error message on initial screen saying no boot device and install an OS on harddrive. Don't know what to do.

Hello;
Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!
Your new drive is blank, so of course there is no OS or boot information on it.
To restore your PC to its original condition you will need to use HP Recovery Media. You can order that from this page: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/bph07143
But ... you will have a problem as that media is designed to use a drive the same capacity as the original, in this case, 500GB -- and if your new SSD is a lot smaller, that will fail as the recovery manager will not be able to recreate the original partitions that were on the hard drive.
I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor represent, HP
