Hi,
It's not possible to upgrade a 64bit CPU from a 32bit one. 64bit processors need 64bit chipsets (motherboards) so a simple switch (replacement) of a 32bit processor by a 64bit one won't work..

Hi:
It really is impossible to answer your question unless you provide the full model number of your PC.
If your model supports a 64 bit processor, you should be able to.
I have an HP nc6400 notebook with the Mobile Intel 945 chipset and a T2400 32 bit processor.
Without doing anything but making sure I have updated the BIOS to allow for support of newer processors, I can simply remove the T2400 32 bit processor, and install a T5600 to a T7600 64 bit processor.

Hi Paul,
can you tell me if this is possible with a HP z620?
the supplier sold the machine with 16gb of Ram which is why i believed the machine was a 64 bit machine, but as it turns out it is definately a 32 bit or x86 in the system details.
What would i need to change the CPU? I don't think they are going to accept the return.
Thanks in advance
Kelly

Hi, Kelly:
I would have to assume that all of the hardware in your z620 is 64 bit capable. I see no reason why you would have to change the current processor in order to run a 64 it operating system.
The easiest thing for you to do (if you live in the USA/Canada) would be to contact HP at this number 1-800-334-5144, and order a set of W7 Pro 64 bit recovery disks, if that is what the product key on your PC indicates (W7 Pro). It won't state 32 or 64 bit.
Best regards,
Paul

I have a NC4400 with a T5600 in it which runs Windows 8 x64 and Linux x64 Dual boot. The NC6400 and NC4400 I bought later have the T2400. I'm guessing that as long as the FSB is 667MHz.
I've got Windows 10 Pro x32 on the NC6400.
Cheers.
