hi visruth,
why wait till next week, share in my joy now.
I DONT WANT ANSWERS FOR THIS.
i just wanted you to see, i really need help when i ask for it, and do appreciate your efforts.
yesterday things were looking good. i had the @yahoo set as my login admin account for this computer, i checked it, i double checked it. i deleted the @bigpond account from my user accounts. i checked that i can still login as yahoo, i can switch users to the other admin account, login here, start and sign in here and at microsft website, all accounts... its all good.
so last night i started setting things up, i had to re-sign up for live mail, altough it was already set to yahoo as default so i thought my messages would still be there. NO, now ive lost all my emails. so i go to my backup and search through my appddatas, copy the messages to the new folders, relatively easy, sort of, for me, but when i open mail, its put every email in twice??? delete delete delete. OK.
then i tried to find my contacts. searched through all the appdata folders with letters that dont spell anything, not just the ones called contacts. local, local low, roaming, folders, sub folders, sub sub sub sub sub folders. nothing anywhere that looks like it might be a list of contacts. so off to googleland i go. i couldnt get an answer but i did see a thing that sort of gave me a hint.
so i return to my backup, find and open the live mail folder ... then type 'contacts' into seach, and four or five files appear in a 15.5 folder, that i checked and it had said it was empty 2 hours earlier, when i was right there copying my messages accross.
stuff like this i dont mind, after all, this is how i found out theres an appdata folder and you have tick show hidden folders to see it. now, when im finished having re-setup fun im going back to googleland to find the info on how to find hidden files in folders that were hidden and say they are empty unless you can guess what to type into the search box to find whats actually in there.
why would i want to hide my contacts list from myself in a folder thats normally hidden and says its empty when i do look in it??? i dont know why? but my computer thought it was funny watching me try to find where it had hidden them.
anyway, thats that, so i wont bore you with what happened when i tried to copy my desktop folder and where have the other half of my desktop icons have gone, because id rather bore you with what happened this morning when i went to log on.
perhaps you should get a coffee before you go on,
SO, THIS MORNING. i grabbed a coffee, switched the computer on to check my emails to see who wants my money this week, and there it is, my login screen for........ blah blah @bigpond .com.
theres still an arrow pointing to the left that i dont rememeber being there untill after i added other user accounts but nothing happens when i click on it, luckily my password still works. so i check my user accounts and....
while i was sleeping, @yahoo has gone, the @outlook that was linked to bigpond at my microsoft account has gone and bigpond has reinserted itself, and the @outlook account that i had to invent to get a new email for microsoft has stayed. still its not all bad, when i went to IE to check and see what my microsoft account has listed....
it turns out i must have won a million dollars somewhere last night and Internet explorer knows about it, because its turned me into a two homepage family. i can hover over it and it turns blue but its not clickable, the old homepage button still works. maybe when i get my millions IE will let me use my second homepage? for a price....
i went to microsoft and they still list my accounts but i guess when they say a week they mean seven days, because they still wont let me change my primary
so, for anybody thats counting how long it takes to change your email , dont forget the three days before all this when i was going through my contacts, emailing friends telling them my new email, and loging in and resetting forgotten passwords from companies that i never need to contact but need my email details.
resetting the email on my computer and at microsoft was the last step to prepare for my new isp. who knew it could be such fun. ive still got acouple of weeks before my new isp takes over so i might get this fixed in time.
oh, and dont forget to count the day i wasted trying to get help from the microsoft support and forum workers.
which is why when the going gets tuff, i come here, because at microsoft theyre paid, they dont want to be there and dont really care.
this HP forum is where i like to come, because the people here, are here because they want to help people like me.
so a big HELLO and THANKYOU to all the volunteers at the HP forum that read through all this crap and put up with people like me. YOU REALLY ARE ALL APPRECIATED for your efforts.
time for me go have a sleep and maybe when i wake up, my computer will have been fixed by the computer fixing fairy... and this will all have just been a dream.
if you want, you can tell me its just me. because id hate to think everybody that has a computer has as much fun as i have with my computer.
