Hi-

I have a new Chromebook 14 and after working well for a few weeks the apostrophe/quotation marks key is acting oddly: it will now only register if I press it twice. No other key seems to do this and it always acts the same way. If I want to render either character I must press twice, but only twice. The same thing happens if I plug in a USB keyboard-- still two keystrokes required to render either character. That suggests to me it is not a hardware issue with the keyboard but a software problem.

Any thoughts?

Problem solved-- my keyboard got switched to one with a dead key in that position somehow. Switching it back to US fixed it.

THANK YOU!! A million times thank you for posting the solution to this once you figured it out! My keyboard started doing the same thing to me today, and at first I just thought it was something under the keypad. After realizing it was happening only on the first time that I pushed the key, I thought the same thing as you about it being a software glitch.

So I started googling to find out if by ANY chance there was help for this problem online, and I found your post. Whew! I simply scrolled down to the right hand corner, saw that my keyboard was in "international" format, and changed it back to US. YAY!!!! Brilliant! 🙂

Thank you for posting this! I have the chromebook 11 and was having the same issue. Switched from US INTL to US keyboard layout, and it works now!
