I have a DV-6 ( pn#WA781UA#ABA ) and my harddrive crashed. of course i never made a recovery disk, so I tried to install a fresh copy of windows, but now  it says my product key is invalid. I assume i got the wrong version. 

 

is there any way for me to tell based on my windows activation number or my part number or serial number?

Your COA attached to bottom of laptop has the license key-plus the Windows version imprinted on it.

 

Your Specs page here states Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit:

You can order Recovery Media for less than $20. Scroll down the list of Drivers to see the option:

hm. thats what i used. do i need the OEM version? do i need the non SP1 version?
