Looking to upgrade hardware prior to windows 10 upgrade. What is fastest/highest CPU / motherboard compatible? Memory? video? Network interface?
Current hardware:
CPU: Intel Core 2 DUO CPU T6600 2.20 Ghz
Memory: (2) 2 Gb SODIMM 800 Mhz 02FE (4 Gb total)
Video: Intel 4 series express chipset family
system board: 3627 18.42

Yours is definitely a DDR3 system based on HP official specs. Crucial seems to want to push the DDR3-1600 for a broad range of systems and occasionally we see issues with the 1600 mhz memory downclocking for older systems. I might look for the actual DDR3-1066 memory sticks out in the market. The Crucial SSD should be fine. We saw issues with some of their older SSDs but the new models are working fine with HP laptops.

Anything is possible with enough money. Here is your Service manual as a starting place for discussion:
Your laptop has these specs:
http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01893242
So the Manual says it is DDR2 memory but at some point around the DV6-1300 Intel they switched to DDR3-1066 of which you can use 8 gigs and that is a fairly reasonably priced upgrade. Your motherboard can accept up to a Core 2 Duo T9900 processor which is a very significant upgreade from what you have. However, it also only has Intel HD 4500 video which is pretty weak. There are dedicated memory video options but they are dated and not much better.
My advice in terms of possible cost effective upgrades is bump it to 8 gigs of memory and install a solid state drive in place of the criminally slow 5400 rpm spinner hard drive. I would not mess with the motherboard or processor because of the cost and difficulty and limited improvement. Wi-fi options are limited by the HP whitelist and you already have the best there is. Post back if you need more help.

Thank you for the link to the manual and link to specs. Both confirm what I saw via HP Advisor on my laptop (good to have link to full docs - much appreciated!)
I see 8 Gb (2 x 4 Gb) on Amazon when searching on DDR3-1066 :
details:
Crucial 8GB Kit (4GBx2) DDR3 1066 MT/s (PC3-8500) CL7 SODIMM 204-Pin Notebook Memory Modules CT2CP51264BC1067
(Wanting to confirm that is what you suggested?).
For hard drive, yes... existing HD is painfully slow...
Found one supposedly certified for dv6-1335dx. Do I need cradle / adapter to install it?
details:
512GB Fast SSD Hard Disk Drive with 2 Year Warranty for HP Pavilion DV6-1355DX laptop HDD Computer - Certified 2 Year Warranty from Seifelden
Thanks again for all your help!

If Crucial specs that memory for your model it will work fine. I am just a bit leery of the SSD because they do not specify the brand of SSD. But the price is not too bad, and you will need no special hardware; just reuse the hardware from the hard drive, an SSD is physically the same as far as hole placement and connector. Where are you located (country)?

Thanks Huffer. Alot has changed since I assembled my first "Tower" pc with 2 internal "Micropolis" hard drives (665Mb and 330 Mb for ALMOST a full Gig!).
I appreciate you raising concerns about getting the right memory and SSDs (I too want to make sure I order the right parts).
Crucial shows this memory for dv6-1355dx:
http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/pavilion-dv6-1355dx/CT5306575
details:
Crucial 8GB Kit (4GBx2) DDR3-1600 SODIMM
They indicate "To use DDR3 memory, your system must have both a 204-pin SODIMM slot and a chipset that supports DDR3 memory." - both of which I don't know the answer to (Can you help?)
for SSD, Crucial lists this one:
http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/pavilion-dv6-1355dx/CT7399646
Crucial BX200 480GB SATA 2.5" 7mm (with 9.5mm adapter) Internal SSD
Thanks so much!
