Please realize that these cooling problems are repetitive spread. The warranty is only for 12 months, and our G7-1318DX failed just before the 8-month mark, due to accumulation of dust. Blowing canned air by technicians "fixed" the problem for about a month. The second trip to the tech center resulted in the installation of a new cooling fan. The next failure will be out of warranty, which will result in replacement with a different brand, if it happens with a year. I never had a laptop which lasted less than 5 years before.

Thank You for your detailed post. It is great contributors like you who help others save time and not go through the frustration of having to do it on their own. It took me about five minutes to find your post and fix the problem. Thank You.

My fan stopped working... Right... Guess what i did... I read all the comment's there was posted on here... Problem solved... I stuck something into the fan to spin it... & tada!!! It started working again... What a genious... Saved me the hastle of having to spend unknown amount's of money to have it checked out & repaired & probably beign charged for an unecessary fan replacement... That's how you do it yourself my people's... Cause i tried blowing into it like i read i should try... But that didnt work... So i went ahead & stuck a knife gently in through the fan vent & gave it a lil spin... & it was back on in working order... Read & learn...

THANK YOU SO MUCH. I have had so many problems with my HP pavilion dv7 laptop since I bought it only 1.5 years ago. Not only did I have to send it in previously to get a new memory card, I was having overheating problems now. That blowing thing sounds so stupid, but really works. My fan is working fine now! I can't believe it was that easy! However, I must say that HP was helpful with my previous problem. When I sent it in, they gave me a new keyboard in addition to replacing the broken parts. It was done in under 2 weeks. Hopefully everyone else has as good of customer service as I have had. (Even if they are from India and can NEVER spell my name or email). Thanks again.

Hi evans125,

I understand that you are getting the error message 'cooling fan (902)'. With regards to this issue the one way to resolve it, would be to update the BIOS. I have included a document 'Error “Cooling Fan (902)” Appears when the Notebook is Powered On'. Please select your series of notebook and follow the instructions and download.

Please let me know if this has resolved the error message. Thank you.
