I have a hp dv-6231eu laptop and I notice it has an expansion port on the left hand side. I'm having a lot of difficulty trying to find examples of devices that can connect to this port. I read somewhere it can take a pcmcia slot and a docking station but I don't know the model numbers of such devices and can't find this data anywhere. I've been scouring the hp support section but I'm going around in circles. I would like to connect a firewire pcmcia card if possible, and maybe other stuff too. Thanks if anyone can help.

There are two ports on that laptop you might be asking about. One is on the left side, is long and skinny and back near the screen. That one is for a docking station. There is also an expresscard slot also on the left side but nearer the front of the laptop. The expresscard slot takes either the 54mm cards or 34mm cards. For firewire that is the way you want to go.
This is the dock that fits the other slot:

thankyou for your response provost but there is no additional slot on the left hand side of this laptop, the left hand side near the front is just solid plastic. There is a slot on the front right corner but this takes some kind of media/remote control card and I don't lnow if other devices can go in it's place becuase the connectors for the card are over one side.
Thankyou for the link to the docking station but that looks as though it has no firewire.
