I got the folowing response from AMD:
Your service request : SR #{ticketno:[8200650362]} has been reviewed and updated.
Response and Service Request History:
I understand that you have HP Envy 14 Notebook with AMD Mobility Radeon HD 5000 Series graphics card. You have upgraded ro windows and installed Catalyst 15.7.1 driver version. After then no HDMI screen detected.
Please be informed, the laptop manufacturer may customize the drivers to support the built-in display and the features and functions specific to the notebook.
AMD recommends that laptop drivers be obtained from the laptop manufacturer. KB article, GPU-28041 helps explain why it may also be necessary to use the driver that is provided by the laptop manufacturer. However, AMD does offer generic laptop graphics drivers for compatible AMD Mobility Radeon™ HD Series products. AMD Mobility Radeon drivers can be found by visiting AMD’s driver hub.
I suggest you to install the driver version 15.7.1 which is recommended for windows 10 that released recently from the laptop manufacturer.
AMD recommends to perform driver installation always as clean installation. You must remove old driver completely from your system before you proceed with new driver installation.
You may also use 3rd party tool such as DDU/CCleaner to perform removal of old driver files remnant.
Please try the above steps and update us.
If you have further queries please do revert back. Thank you for contacting AMD Technical support.
In order to update this service request, please respond, leaving the service request reference intact.

I got fed up using VGA and I went and brought a chromecast for $60(new Zealand dollars) so guys I am up and running without cables with my Pavilion dv6, I did have some issues with finding the chromecast, reset the cromecast and ended up doing a manual search and connecting that way, however you must use chrome as your browser to launch, if you want to go full screen load the beta version as well into your chrome browser and select from this menu, youtube is a breeze 🙂

i dont think AMD releases laptop manufacturer specific driver.
i think there is only one driver. and usually it works for all laptop manufacturers.
this of course is a special case and that one driver disables hdmi pretty much.
regarding chromecast workaround, how is the quality? most of my files are 720p and some 1080p. can it handle all formats i.e. any decoding and transcoding issues/limitations?
