Hi:

You need one of those USB cables with a "square-ish" shaped end that goes into the monitor (the port for the "squar-ish" end normally plugs into a port located in proximity to the monitor's power cord input and video cable inputs), and the other end being the typical flat rectangle USB connector that goes into the PC.

Then the USB ports on the monitor will be activated.

I came in search of an answer to the very same question.  However, the one and only answer offered has me puzzled, as both of the USB ports of the left-hand side of both of my monitors only accept a USB connection that is "rectangularly configured".  I have been unable to find a USB port on either of the monitors which would accept a "square" USB configuration.

Hi:

I have an HP monitor (LA1905wg).

It has 2 USB ports on the left side where you plug standard USB devices into.

On the bottom of the display where you attach the power, and video cables is the squar-ish USB port where you plug the one end of the cable into and the flat, rectangular end goes into a USB port on the PC which now powers the 2 ports on the left side.

Folks - we have a winner!  Thanks so very much Paul.  I believe that your suggestion solved my dilemma.  Hopefully, it will be the answer sought by others.

Much appreciation - Rod
