is there a way to access the blue keys on the keyboard. the unit is from canada. I can get the blue keys if i add languages that use them and switch between languages but this is less efficient then clicking the keyboard symbol and opening on screen keyboard and swiping until the symbol i want appears.

i have tried bios enable and disable function keys which is only for f1-f12

i have tried hold crtl+fn+ then press right shift and press right shift twice

hold alt + shift is how i change between languages, preferably i only have one language and one keyboard in the language installed...

tried alt codes and they are annoying to remember

holding fn does not do anything...

wish it could be simple

Hi! @steven31, Thank you for joining the HP Forums!

I understand you need to know how to access the blue keys on your laptop.

Please try steps mentioned below.

Click Start, enter regional in the search field, then select Regional and Language Settings from the search results list.
Select the Keyboards and Languages tab, then click Change keyboards.

In the Text Services and Input Languages window, click the Add button.

In the Add Input Language window, select a language and click OK.

In the Text Services and Input Languages window, set the Default input language to the one you just selected.

Next, select the language you do not want and click Remove.

Click OK to save the changes and close the window. Then click OK again to close the Regional and Language Options window.

To activate blue character press Ctrl+fn+right Shift keys once.

To deactivate blue character press Ctrl+fn+right Shift keys twice.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Cheers! 🙂

Hi MrRobot,

i am clear on adding languages, keyboards within languages and this is the only way i have been able to access the blue keys but not all of them. i would have to know the language of each key i want and switch between them.

simply the hold fn blue key does not work

simply the hold ctrl+fn and press right shift does not work or left shift to actiavte and nor does the double press right shift work to deactivate it. the blue keys remain unaccessible.

what other options can i try?

Hey there! @steven31, thanks for the reply.

Please refer the document how to enable blue keys.

Also, try Pressing "Left shift" + "Left alt" together and double click "Right Shift". keys to enable blue keys.

Keep me posted!

Cheers! 🙂

left shift and left alt then pressing right shift does not work.

pressing and holding left shift and left alt an pressing p key gives me the number 1 but other blue keys do nothing but give their same regular function.(hopefully that helps?)

as for the disable and enable function of the f1-f12 keys, that only makes those keys either normally on or normally closed wrt to the dual function. it's actually not a blue key on them.

my conclusion is that you can only use the blue keys when in another language and they are there for the typical other languages but oddly the blue keys are not shared amongst a single other language...

any other ideas?

@steven31, Please try the steps provided in the link and check if this solves the issue.

Or you can try Ctrl+Fn+ right Shift (let go of shift only) & right Shift again.

If the issue persists try performing a system restore and even if system restore does not work try performing a system recovery.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Happy weekend! 🙂

Hi Mr.Robot,

I alrea tried both options. I was never able to get th blue key functions. I already saw that article but it doesn't apply to my notebook.

How about alt+left shift to switch languages. Does this give inclination of the way to access blue keys?

Happy weekend!

Hi! @steven31, thanks for the reply.

Yes, you can try that option. However, if the issue still persists please restore the operating system.

Hi Mr. Robot,

I meant to say do you have any ideas or can you find out some using the information that left alt and left shift switch languages when more then one are installed? Most are ctrl+shift to switch languages.

Thanks,
Steven

@steven31! thanks for the response,

Hold down the left Ctrl and press the left shift. You might have to do it 2-3 times before it cycles back to the language you want.

Keep me posted!

Cheers! 🙂
