Update all the drivers from hp.com or HPSA for full functionality:
HPSA Link:

If issue persists, then enable function keys in BIOS:

Hi Paul_Tikkanen,
No I didn’t install it myself – it was already installed. But I would be interested to know how to make sure you (I) installed the Intel chipset installation utility and the graphics driver.
Thanks

Hi:
Go to the device manager and click to expand the Display Adapters category.
If the graphics driver is installed, you will see an Intel HD graphics device listed there.
If the graphics driver is not installed, you will see a Standard VGA Adapter listed there.
If you see the Standard VGA Adapter listed, then you need to install the Intel HD graphics driver for W7 64 bit.
Then you should be able to adjust the screen brightness using the Fn keys.

Hi Paul_Tikkanen,
You are right – its just the standard vga-adaper. I did a search on hp’s website for Intel HD graphics driver and got loads of packages (all with the same name). So what exactly do I do now ???
Thanks

Hi:
I can't get to the driver support site for the 250 G3 right now. It must be down.
Try this...
Be connected to the internet.
Go to the device manager and click on the standard vga adapter.
Click on the driver tab.
Click on Update Driver.
Select the automatic search method and see if windows update finds, downloads and installs a graphics driver.
it may take a few minutes for this search to work.
it will either download a driver or report that no driver can be found.
If no driver can be found, we will have to wait until the driver site is working again.

Hi:
The site is back up again, and this should be the driver you need for the graphics if windows update didn't work.
After you install this driver you should be able to adjust the brightness by using the function keys.
If you see a SMBUS Controller device in the device manager, that means the chipset driver is not installed either and you would install this driver for that.
