I have an HP Envy 15.  Approx 2 years old.  Works great untill recently.   All of sudden, when typing y, t or the number 5 I get the follwoing.   t5  y6  t5  y6  >  No spill or drop involoved.    I tried the following.

External keyboard, On screen keyboard to clear out he cap lock.   Uninstalled and re installed the keyboard a few times.

Should I Go back to factory settings, or is it falure of the keyboard, and nothing I can do?

Thank you.

Has there been any recent changes to your system?

Have you tried running The HP Support Assistant to aid with updates and issues.

Have you tried the Windows troubleshooter?

Have you done all you Windows updates.

Have you looked for a bios update for your notebook?

Have you tried running The HP Support Assistant to aid with updates and issues.  Yes.   I just did, and updted all.

Have you tried the Windows troubleshooter?  Yes.  It claimed to See a problem, But no other information.

Have you done all you Windows updates.  Yes.  Except the Optional Updates all done as of this Date.   One was done a few days before. I had the problem.

Have you looked for a bios update for your notebook?     I just tried but the Computer I have was not listed.

Hi Ronald,

Thank you for your reply.

Yes there is a Bios update, the current version is nF.0C, 3.99M. HP ENVY 15-3040nr Notebook PC Drivers.

Here is a link to Update the BIOS.  I suggest contacting HP to do a bios update, as it does have the potential to cause issues if something fails.

I would also do this to look for and try to repair any corrupted files.

1. In the run  bar type Command Prompt

2. Right click on the Command prompt and choose run as administrator

3. type sfc /scannow and press enter

I would also run check disk.

1. Click start and then click computer

2. Right click on the C drive and choose properties

3. Select the tools tab

4. Click on check now.

5. Click start.

If you like you can set a schedule to do this on an regular basis.

Here is a link to Notebook Keyboard Troubleshooting (Windows 7)

If you connect an external keyboard does it respond the same way? If it does  then it is not the  keyboard itself?

If after doing the update and following the troubleshooting document the issues is unresolved, and the external keyboard responded the same way, I would do a recovery.

Are you running Windows 7 or 8:?

Please let me know the outcome.

I tried all of your suggestions expect the Bios Update.   No issues found on all scans.

I had connected an external keyboard, and could not recreate the issue, it worked fine.

I am thinking it is a damaged Keyboard.   If you think the Bios Update will help, I can attempt, it but it seems unrelated to me.

I would not mind a system restore as I have all backed up on the computer, I mainly use cloud storage.

If you have any other suggestions, it would be appricatied.    Thank you
