Hi,

The 24 character error code for the long Disk Self Test would indicate that the Hard Drive is failing and needs to be replaced.  This is also consistent with the boot issue you describe.

If your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the drive replaced - you can check your warranty status Here.

If you live in the US, contact HP Here.

If you are in another part of the world, start Here.

If you are out of warranty and would like a guide on replacing the Hard Drive yourself, please let me know - include the full Model No. and Product No. of your m6 series notebook - see Here for a further explanation.

Regards,

Thanks for the reply.

below are the product details

Product No. C2N761UA#ABA

Model No. m6-1125dx

My warranty just expired. Please guide me how to replace the hard disk.

Also, If I want to install OS again, can I know the product key of the factory installed OS.

I have not created a replacement disk. I can install win 8 without purchasing hp recovery disk if I can get the product key.

Also, can you offer free recovery disk for students?

Thanks.

Hi,

I don't work for HP, so I'm afraid I can't help you regarding any offers they may have for installation discs, however I'm not aware of any.

Regarding the Hard Drive, the following is an example that would be fine for your notebook.

750Gb Hard Drive.

The procedure to replace the Hard Drive starts on Page 56 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.

The product key for Windows 8 is stored ( encrypted ) on the notebooks bios chip - If you have an oem installation disc ( this must be oem and not retail ) the key will be automatically read during installation.

Otherwise, you would have order a replacement set of Recovery Discs using the link below - the cost does vary a little depending on where in the world you live, but they're generally inexpensive.

Order HP Recovery Discs.

If you have any problem with this link, order them directly from HP.

If you live in the US, contact HP Here.

If you are in another part of the world, start Here.

The procedure for using Recovery Media to reinstall the OS on your new drive can be found on the following link.

Best regards,
