Hi! @alex_tar, Welcome to HP forums.
I understand you would like to know what is the maximum SD card capacity used on your laptop.
Don't worry I'll try to help you out.
Did you make any hardware or software changes on your PC?
As you mentioned you would like to know what is the maximum SD card capacity used on your laptop.
Please find the list of supported sd card compatible with your laptop.
Secure Digital (SD)
Secure Digital miniSD
Secure Digital microSD
CompactFlash I
CompactFlash II
Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC)
Secure Digital Extended Capacity (SDXC)
Memory Stick (MC)
Memory Stick Pro (MS Pro)
The SD card slot should support up to 128 GB.
However, to be on a safer side I would suggest you use 64GB maximum SD card on a safer side.
Also, if you concerned about the hard drive space on your PC try the steps recommended below to solve the issue.
Please try the steps recommended below.
Deleting temporary files and directories increases hard disk space and reduces the time Windows takes to access the hard drive. Windows uses a TEMP directory to temporarily store files intended only for short-term use. Over time, these files might not be removed and can build up and cause problems.
To delete these files, follow these steps:
Close all open software programs.
If you are using Windows 10, do the following:
In Windows search, type disk cleanup.
Select Disk Cleanup from the results.
The Disk Cleanup: Drive Selection window opens.
Select the drive you want to clean up from the drop-down menu and click OK.
A message opens stating that Disk Cleanup is calculating how much space can be freed.
Place a checkmark next to the types of files you want the Disk Cleanup utility to delete. Temporary files are safe to delete.
CAUTION:
Selecting some options can have a negative effect. If you are unsure about what to delete, do not delete files until you know which ones are important.
Click OK.
Click Delete Files.

@alex_tar, Thanks for your quick response and time.
I appriciate your efforts for writing back to us.
I have checked the specification again, As the laptops, SD card slots are just like an external card reader.
It just read all kinds of the card but the size depends on the type of memory card you are using.
Please find the details listed below.
SD capacities range from 128MB to 2GB
SDHC capacities range from 4GB to 32GB
SDXC capacities range from 64GB to 2TB
So if you are using an SDXC card on your laptop it should detect the 480GB card.

@alex_tar, Thanks for your quick response and time again.
I don't understand your question. Do you want to install an SSD or an SD card to your PC?
If you are trying to install an SSD on your PC. You can install any size (and by that I mean capacity not physical size-2.5 inch wide 7mm thick is what you have to get) SSD your budget will support. Certainly, a 512 GB or 1 TB will be no problem at all. The motherboard is designed to run its SATA devices at SATA-II speed.

@alex_tar, Thanks for your quick response again.
As you mentioned you want to install an SD card which contains 480GB.
Sure you can install an SD card of 480GB but as I explained in my previous thread only if you are using an SDXC card it should get detected on your laptop.
Also, it's not feasible or reliable to install the operating system on an SD card.
Windows 10 cannot be installed or run from an SD card. What you can do though is redirect or move some of the modern Universal Windows Apps downloaded from the Windows Store to the SD card to free up space on the system drive.
To do that, click Start > Settings > System > Apps and Features
Select and an app, then click Move. Not all Universal Windows Apps support this, so be aware of that.
