Hi:

There is no official HP documentation on that. Unless someone has installed a SATA 3 SSD in a 4540s and can confirm that it runs at the SATA # speed, I doubt you will find the exact answer.

HP only offers SATA II mechanical hard drives in the 4540s.

However, I can tell you that the chipset in that model is supposed to have SATA 3 controllers, as you can see from the link below. It shows there are two SATA 3 ports.

Hopefully, HP connected one of them to the hard drive!

You're very welcome.

Looking forward to hearing back from you.

I think that the SATA III SSD will work at the SATA III speed.

but there is a small problem. When changing ssd I immediately lose my warranty

I don't think so.

Customers can upgrade memory and hard drives, and not void the warranty, unless of course you break something during the process.

The only thing is that HP will not support any hard drive issues you have. You would have to reinstall the original HDD that came with the PC.

Q17. Will my warranty be affected if I install a non-HP upgrade/option in my HP product ?
HP warranty extends only to HP products and options. If you install a non-HP option into your HP product and this option then fails, you must contact the supplier for warranty cover on that item.

The warranty on your HP product will not be affected by the installation of a non-HP upgrade/option unless your HP product is damaged as a result of installation and/or operation of a third party option, such damage will not be covered by HP warranty.

If your HP product is not operating correctly, you may be asked to verify that any non-HP option is not responsible for the problem be uninstalling any such items.
