HP Pavilion 15 laptop
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Since installing windows 10 I keep getting the following error message, related to my HP support assistant:

USER ACCOUNT CONTROL

This app has been blocked for your protection

An administrator has blocked you from running this app.  For more information, contact the administrator.

Program name: hpDST.exe

Publisher: NOT TRUSTED

File origin: Hard drive on this computer

Program location: "C:\ Progam Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\Setup Manager\hpDST.exe"

I am the administrator and I have not knowingly blocked this program.

I have tried uninstalling the support assistant but this generates a different error, from Windows Installer, which says another installation is ongoing, even though I don't think it is!

Can anyone help?

This is an apparently common issue -- there are several posts on the problem and there are at least three recommended "fixes".

I like this one - it is clean and easy.  Assuming it works, this might be my choice:

How to Circumvent “This App Has Been Blocked For Your Protection” to Install Apps In Windows 10

Here is one that suggests you disable the Smart Screen settings:

How to bypass “This app has been blocked for your protection” error

Lastly, this one suggests that you fuss with the hidden administrator account:

Solved: This app has been blocked for your protection

Thanks for your help on this.  It was the first of the three options that did it - Support Assistant started working and everything else, including my spyware which for some reason was not updating, came back to life.
