My HP Envy 6 series got into some trouble:
I am stcuk on the BSOD, can't do anything
The operating system couldn't be loaded because the digital signature of a file couldn't be verified.
File:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\hpdskflt.sys
Error code: 0xc0000428
Options are:
- Press enter to start againg (nothing will happen, the laptop will reboot itself and then back to square one with 428 error)
- Startup settings (F8): non of these options is working, nothing happens, only "Your pc ran into a problem..." and then the laptop restarts itself
- UEFI firmware settings (Esc)
F1 - system info
F2 - system diagnostics
F9 - boot device menu
F10 - BIOS setup
F11 - recovery
None of the above will work - all the options end up with "Your pc ran into a problem..." screen.
Even BIOS setup isn't accessible.
Tried to boot from a usb boot drive that I created on the other laptop, but the screen goes into blinking and looks like the laptop restarts itself every 2-3 seconds...
Any ideas?

Hi @avarty ,
Welcome to the HP Forums!
It is a terrific place to find answers.
For you to have the best experience in the HP forum I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide Learn How to Post and More
i understand that recently your notebook is stuck on a BSOD and you are unable to to anything. You are getting the message "The operating system couldn't be loaded because the digital signature of a file couldn't be verified.
File:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\hpdskflt.sys
Error code: 0xc0000428"
The only option is to restart but you again receive the same error. You are unable to access the UEFI settings. You tried to boot from a USB boot drive but you just got a blinking cursor and then restarts about every 2-3 seconds.
Has there been any recent changes to your system software or hardware?
I would try a Performing a Hard Reset or Forced Reset.
To boot to a USB drive or stick you would need to change the boot order. Configuring the Boot Order in the System BIOS
Can you boot into safe mode with networking? Entering Safe Mode (Windows 7).
If so you could try a restore back to before this happened. Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 7).
If you are unable to do a restore, I suggest you do a factory recovery. Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 7)
During the recovery process you wil notice an option to backup your personal files to prevent data loss. If you have not done one recently, I suggest you do one now.
Restoring Files that were Backed Up Using HP Recovery Manager (Windows 7)
If you are able to do the recovery, once completed run the HP Support Assistant to check for HP updates.
Good Luck!

unquestionable hpdskflt.sys errors occurs very often, since years and many Windows version too.
Why?
on 09-29-2014 05:54 AM user "@avarty" asked My HP Envy 6 series got into some trouble:
The operating system couldn't be loaded because the digital signature of a file couldn't be verified.
File:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\hpdskflt.sys
STATUS: 0xc0000428

The operating system couldn't be loaded because the digital signature of a file couldn't be verified.
File:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\hpdskflt.sys
STATUS: 0xc0000428
btw. the SSD Evo 840 is running without any problems since three months, when I changed from the original 320GB disk.
The strongly advised "system repair" didn't not work - same boot termination screen on startup, repair tool tells corrupt hpdskflt.sys.
I tried several times, no change. Even F8 then "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement" did not work at this point.
None of the F8 "safe mode" setting is working either!
As it's a HP DV7 there is no UEFI so the BIOS is still accessible.
Then started CMD-box terminal following repair trial, this works fine all drives are accessible. No errors on "chkdsk".
First I copied another "hpdskflt.sys" (vers 6.xxx) known working well on my second HP notebook - with a digital signature valid untill November '14. I copied it via a USB drive ... it is in the "system32" ?!
Windows Recovery does not work, my Pavilion DV7 2145eg was delivered with MS Vista and I updated it to Windows 7 home premium. btw. Booting from USB-Drive is possible.
No change ... boot termination again, File:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\hpdskflt.sys
STATUS: 0xc0000428
Windows repair tool tells the new file is corrupt!
Then I tried bootrec commands - fixMBR, fixBOOT & rebuildBCD ... the option "rebuildBCD" didn't find a Windows 7 installation at all.
No change ... boot termination again.
But now F8 "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement" works fine, Win 7 is booting, the windows 7 system logging tells hpdskflt.sys eventID 1001, although I find a HP signature when checking the properties.
So there is no way of regular booting now, I have to start with F8 and to choose "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement", this is a security problem.
Where do I get the fitting hpdskflt.sys, or how can I disable the mobile disk protection, if this is the problematic tool.
To me it seems to be a Windows update problem ... Do I really need the hpdskflt.sys, with a SSD running the system?
What will happen when I delete the hpdskflt.sys?
Or is there a way to give it a signature?
I don't want to update the windows 7 system until there is a "good" new Windows version.

Hi @AWHDD,
Thank you for your reply.
The steps that should resolve this issue are listed in my previous post. The only other thing I can add is to check for viruses or malware.
A full recovery would take you unit back to Vista the original OS and you would need to update again to Windows 7.
Here is a link to Upgrading to Windows 7 to assist with that process.

Thank you for your reply! But sorry, this is not an answer to my question. The system is running fine despite the HPDSKFLT.SYS error.
I definitely do not want to recover the whole machine, Vista first then Windows 7.
So please tell me, what will happen if I delete that driver, or change it to a version with a valid signature?
Or does no valid driver exist anymore, in that case my notebook will hang with the same error, when I reach the Same update level.
Is there no other Way???
thanks in advance, kind regards!

Hi again,
While doing some more research I came across this on the Microsoft forum which may help.
Driver Update Stops me from Booting Up
Please let me know if this works.
05-02-2016 04:32 AM
That driver is responsible for "freefall protection".
Unless you let your Laptop fall down, you do not need this driver.
btw. my driver is:
4.2.9.1
date 2012-09-24
30,3 KB
Name: Mobile Data Protection System
*and* my driver is correctly signed (Hewlett-Packard Company, SH1, 2012-09-24)
What is your version of the driver?
05-02-2016 04:46 AM
Hi,
I just did some futher checking of the driver and detected:
- Driver is signed
- However, certificate has *expired* on 2014-11-16
- So actually, my Windows 7 says that the driver is *not* signed
- Nevertheless, my Windows 7 has no problems with this driver,
so it is not clear to me what the problem wih *your* driver is.
Did you find a solution meanhwile?
