My hp pavillion dv7 microphone is not working and I have not been able to use my skype since then.
Maybe it blew out ? as I heard a very screetchy sound when I booted the machine and it hAS NOT WORKED SINCE THEN.

Thanks so much everyone for trying to help us get this fixed.
Taking apart the cover did fix both the mic and the webcam. I tried all the software changes, updated the drivers and followed the threads and to believe that it was a physical failure.
One thing I wanted to add was that when I first got the laptop I noticed that there was a pinging sound whenever the screen moved. I now realize this was due to the wedcam and mic disconnecting and reconnecting.

hi,
My internal mircophone stopped working. day beofre i had some windows updates and today before i switched on my laptop i cleaned all air vents with air duster. was working fine day before. as now i tried everything including hardware reinstall and resting sound set. please help!

Did you check the connector of the internal microphone inside the casing? The microphone or webcam becoming disconnected seems to be a common problem with this laptop. See YouTube and this thread for instructions.
