I got a notice from "driver support" that I have 20 out of date drivers and offering a fix if I register & pay a fee. Is this legit?

Hi,

Please ignore it and run a malware removal tool to clear it properly. Please try the following one:

   www.malwarebytes.org/Download

NO!!

They will bait and switch you and tell you that you have viruses on your computer and then charge you $130 to remove them.

They are not legit.

I work for Driver Support and would just like to clarify we are not a virus or malware.  We're not sure why HP is allowing promotion of MalwareBytes on their forum.  However, we are a proud member of the Clean Software Alliance and have been in business for 20 years focused on making driver search and install easier for consumers.  We are not in the virus removal business, but we work with antivirus companies to insure our software is safe.  Driver Support is legitimate and here are a few validations to show that we follow strict software quality standards.

We are a Microsoft Partner; Gold Applications Development:  Verification

We carry Truste's Trusted Download certification:  Verification

We average 5 stars via TrustPilot, a leader in consumer reviews:  Read the Reviews

Lastly, we are validated on Google, Mcafee, and Symantec via their websafe standards among many other major antivirus companies.  You may view all of this in more detail on our Software Principles webpage.

If you have any questions or concerns, you may call our office directly at 512-373-3518 or email our Driver Support Team here:  support@driversupport.com

If you are legit why did I get an upsell 30 seconds after talking to a rep.

I spend $30 (?) for driver support software and 30 seconds later I am being told that I have a virus and need to spend $100 +

ripoff

If driver support is legit how did it get on my computer without my consent?

Sounds like a legit outfit - but - - I chose the agent assist install option and after the agent controlled download she ran a 'scan' on my CPU and it 'found' 22 driver faults and then offered me three options for the driver repair starting at $119.00!

After regaining control of my coputer, I ended the hard sell conversation. There's  no evidence of any Driver Support on my PC. I'll be seeking a refund of my $39.99 or an install and cleanup . .... Are you sure you're legit?

Driver support is not a legit company-IMHO. Your OEM drivers should only come from the HP driver site any one advertising to give you support is wrong. Also if you want to update individual drivers for your laptop hardware GO directly the the hardware manfacture site and lookup your hardware ID and download and install them yourself. And you don't have to pay someone to do this for you. You need to do a little homework and look for the drivers but they are free to get without having to pay DriverSupport for something that is free to get updates for. If you pay someone to get drivers for you - you got scammed. And installing anything like driver update is also a scam-if HP driver site shows no update then unless you have problems then go to the manufacture site directly and get the drivers from there.

I support what the Driver Support employee wrote. I bought a license last year and I have had no issues whatsoever. None of my security software (Kaspersky Total, Malwarebytes, Comodo) identifies Driver Support as malware or any other kind of intrusive software. The program has been valuable in keeping my drivers up-to-date and helping to install the current and correct driver when attaching new devices. I have never had anyone try to sell me anything more than the license, which has covered all my needs. I'm not sure why some believe otherwise, except that I have come to learn that many people have no idea how their computer works and what is "good" software and what is "bad". Many people will download anything and everything that strikes their fancy or is in vogue without doing any research first and then assume something else is the problem. I have occasionally, even with due diligence, been scammed into downloading so-called "free" programs touted by legitimate sites (CNET.com used to be legit, but now is just an absolute mess, pushing programs as free but with hidden add-ons) and then had to remove them. I have not had this happen with Driver Support.

Driver Support has worked well for me, is not intrusive or dangerous and no attempt has been made to get me to give up more money. I'm not sure what else is important here.

If it got on your computer without you being aware that is your fault, not the fault of Driver Support. Be more circumspect in what you download.
