Thanks for the latest post.
I've been assured by the SSD manufacturer that this one will work in this laptop and with Win 10. (not really surprising as that's why they make them). Having looked through the manual you suggested it doesn't seem to look much like my laptop. I have found another (part no. 575977-001) which looks more like it but only contains AMD processors. I suspect the documentation has not been kept up to date with the launch of new models!
I did have Win 7 on the SSD before the upgrade to Win 10 and it seemed ok.
I think my next move will be to try and get a new battery. It may be that something doesn't like the lower voltage. I've tried running without the battery and it has been more stable although not perfect.

I've uploaded a temperature graph so you can see the effects. On the left shows normal operation, on the right shows the levelling off as nothing responds.
I will update when there's something to say.
