Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

My laptop started making a ringing sound like a telephone out of the blue and continues to do so periodically.

What is it and how can I disable it?

Hi,

 

Check the following.

 

Right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar, select Playback devices and then select the Sounds tab.  Under the heading 'Sound Scheme', select Windows Default in dropdown menu, then click Apply and Ok to save this change.
