hello everyone, my laptop sound is not working at all.
I was playing borderlands 2 and had skype on and when i plugged in my headphones into one of the two headphone jack the sound just completely stopped working.
I have restored my computer, reinstalled the audio drivers, disable then enable the driver, check if it is on mute, turned my speaker volume all the way up and i still have the problem.
But when i play the video and go to my sounds in control panel, the green bar that shows if sound is playing or not goes up and down so i know the sound works. But i can't hear anything...
my laptop is Hp pavilion dv4-3118tx
Ive also tried putting my headphones in and out repeatedly and it does not seem to work or maybe i just havent done it enough???
I dont think the laptop is in headset mode since i cant seem to hear anything even with my headphones plugged in..
Thanks in advance.

Go to the link below.Enter your Product Number as listed on Service Tag attached to bottom of notebook (may be under battery). You can also get the Product Number by pressing Fn + Esc key. After entering PN, click Next ,then choose Software & Drivers. On the next page use the dropdown to select your OS (probably Windows 7 64bit). A list will populate with drivers. Download & Save the latest Audio driver.

thank you for the quick reply but i have done what u told me to do but it still doesnt work... I've already updated my audio drivers though, still having the same problem wheneever i play an audio file i can see the green bar going up and down meaning that it works but maybe i just messed up with something inside the audio in control panel??? but all i did is put in my headphones in my headphone jack and it just stopped completely working.

Right click the Speaker icon next to the clock in System tray.Choose 'Playback devices' from the popup menu. Is Speakers & Headphones listed there as Default device?

I also hear that there is a switch in the headphone jack that will make it a headphone mode??? but i have 2 headphone jacks and the symbol for one is just headphones and the other one is headphones with mic. I remember that i put my headphones in the symbol with just the headphones then i put it in the jack with symbol with headphones and mic then my sound just completely stopped working

Oh and also i dont have any headphones with a mic i just have an ordinary hadphones from the HTC Company

Right click speaker icon again & select Playback devices. Go to the tab "Communications".Put a check in 'Do nothing' and see if that makes a difference. If still no joy, try right clicking the extra device and disable it...leaving  'Headphones & Speakers" as Default. Also try a restart after making the changes.
