> I am not being allowed to alter, apply, or  OK  the  box.

The "trick" is to use the 'TAB' key on the keyboard to move the cursor from one field to the next field.

When you have "tabbed" into the 'OK' field, press ENTER, to "execute" the 'OK'.

Similarly, holding 'SHIFT' and 'TAB' moves the cursor from one field to the previous field.

Some fields could be "pull-down" fields.

If so, type the 'Down-Arrow' to "open" the list of items.

Then, again use 'Down-Arrow' to highlight your selection from the list.

Press ENTER, to close the "pull-down" field.

yes  that is the way  I managed to get  the   mouse button  setting   dialogue box   to     appear  but  I have tried everty thing  to   alter   the settings  without  succsess,  I think  a visit to the   repair clinic  is the answer,

Notice that some words have an "underline" under one alphabetic character in a word.

This implies that holding-down the ALT key and pressing that alphabetic character is the same as a "mouse-click" on that field.

> trip to the repair clinic

Or, a quick trip next door, to borrow a [computer] mouse from your neighbour.

Any mouse with a USB "tail" should work.

Check the "screen-saver" settings.  It may be configured to "lock" the screen after 1 (?) minute of "inactivity".

Check the "power" settings.  It may be configured to turn off the screen after a few minutes, to conserve power.

See "HP EliteBook 8570p Notebook PC computer model and HP ProBook 6570b Notebook PC Maintenance and Servi..."  at:  http://h20565.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/psi/manualsResults/?sp4ts.oid=521292...

Yes, HP Support has a "new" web-site, as of April 1st (really!), and the side-effect is this overly-long URL.

Scroll-down to page 21 for "Touchpad" details.

You might find a part-number for the Touchpad, and then use http://PartSurfer.hp.com to order a replacement part.

hi  thankyou for your very informative   information,  it would appear that a replacement   top cover  touch pad   68613-001    from HP    is    £80,   partsurfer   do not supply   a price,,  I can buy    a refurbished   laptop for that  so I think its a no no   but cheers
