Hi all!
I have a Pavillion DV7-6c05ev. The product number is A8V36EA-B1A. I try to upgrade memory. On board, there are two modules of 1.5 volt. ( 2 GB Samsung M471B5773DH0-CH9 and 4GB Samsung M471B5273DH0-CK0 and they work dual channel) . I am trying to buy a second module M471B5273DH0-CK0, to have 8 GB dual channel. I ordered a new one, but i delivered a Samsung M471B5173QHO-YK0 instead of CK0. The YKO works on 1.35 v and on 1.5V, but I am afraid to pair them, because maybe anything could go wrong with voltages. I found another shop, and ordered again CK0, but i received again YKO. So now I have two new YKO. what do you think, is it safe to pair the old CKO with the new YKO (the sellers insist that YKO is the replacement of CKO and will work fine on 1.5V, it will choose automaticaly the correct voltage. And the other question is, as long as I have two YKO, may I use these two as a pair? There are exactly the same, but one is Made in China, and the other made in Philippines, but I don't think this is a problem. And replace both the old memories? Is the M471B5173QHO-YK0 compatible with my model?
(I found another seller with CKO, but I don't want to risk again. From what I understood, they have the old code on their pc's, but there is a new one, as replacement, the M471B5173QHO-YK0 one, and they ship the second one. The question is if I can pair with the old CKO and return the second YKO, or keep both YKO and use them with my laptop.)
Thank you in advance.
Kind regards
Zeta

No that is essentially the same stuff. The first 11 is the CAS latency and the second numbers are not really speeds but SPD versions and then the B4 is just the manufacturers internal reference for the form factor of the memory. The computer will see those 2 modules as identical.

thank you for the quick responce!!
I've just noticed that the two new ones, have a difference, and maybe this difference in on times. The one says 12800S-11-12-B4 and the second one says 12800S-11-13-B4. Do you think there is a problem here? The timings are different? Will they work dual channel?
thank you very much

Hi all
I tried both solutions (curiosity didn't kill the cat). And they both work fine. I run the memtest, in extended mode, and both solutions past all the test. Of course I kept the new identical YK0, as they suppose to be better together, and newer than the old one. They work at 1.35 V , so that means that motherboard support 1.35V. The strange thing is that when I had on, the 1.5v module + the 1.35 v module, they were working as dual mode, but in different voltage each!! the 1.35v, which supposed to be dual voltage, didn't swiched to 1.5V!! This is strange, but happened, and the test passed succesfully!
the new ones work fine together, and the difference between 6 GB and 8 GB is obvious. This machine worked fine with 6 GB in most cases, but when I run a virtual machine together with xin xp, the ram went up to 90% and the performance was low. With 8GB of ram and everything open, it goes up to 67%. Just for your information, if there is anyone out there with the same questions.
Thank you very much for your responces.
My best wishes!
