I can seem to find a second slot for ram on my laptop. the one on it is 4gs but I need to get it to at least 6gs

There are 4 versions of the HP 250...G1 through G4. Which do you have?

 

Assuming the G1 here is the Manual:

See p. 47. You should have 2 stacked memory slots. Does your memory bay look different than in the picture?

That is a horse of another color. If you have either a Pentium or Celeron processor there is only one RAM slot.

It will take a maximum of 8 gigs in a single module of DDR3L-1600 SO-DIMM:

 

8-GB (PC3L, 12800, 1600-MHz) 693374-005

 

Kingston says this will work and it is much cheaper than other similar modules:
