i am using an hp elitebook 8460p. i have it set so that on both battery and charger power, the display will dim after one minute, and all other settings (turn off display, sleep computer, etc.) are set to never. i also have it set that closing the lid on both battery and charger power will do nothing. however, if i close the lid of the laptop, then leave it for a while, when i open the lid again the screen will not turn on. i have to hold the power button until it turns off, ten start it up again. dont really know why this is happening, ive tried changing the settings and changing them back, basically anything i can think of doing. any help would be appreciated, thank you

Greetings,

To make hibernation unavailable, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, and then type cmd in the Start Search box.
2. In the search results list, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as Administrator.
3. When you are prompted by User Account Control, click Continue.
4. At the command prompt, type powercfg.exe /hibernate off, and then press ENTER.
5. Type exit and then press ENTER to close the Command Prompt window.

This should solve your issue. I think your computer is going into hibernation mode and not wanting to come out when you leave your computer after a preset amount of time.
Good Luck
Brent

I have a similar problem.  My company laptop is an HP EliteBook 725.  End-users just started getting these.  Unfortunately, when I undock to run to a meeting, I have to shut down.  There doesn't seem to be a way to undock and still be able to use the laptop.  When I undock and open the lid, the screen is blank.  The laptop is on, but there is nothing to see.  A hard boot is all I can do at this point.  I've tried locking my screen before undocking, and have also tried opening the lid before undocking, but have the same problem - it goes blank.

Having to take time to shut down before taking my laptop to a meeting, and then booting up once I get there is making it pretty non-productive for me and my colleagues.  The word is out about this problem, which as caused many to opt for another brand instead.  Any ideas on how to fix this?

Hi all.

It seems that HP EliteBook Folio has an option in the BIOS (not in windows) which controls whether the computer turns on when opening the lid.

Note that the menu options and button combinations may/will be different if you use a different brand laptop and the option may not be present at all. However, this is confirmed working on an HP EliteBook Folio.

Steps to enable wake when lid is opened:

1. While the computer is starting up (while the HP logo is on the screen), press the Delete key.
2. A menu should be shown with various options to press. One of the options should be "F10 BIOS Setup." If so, press F10.
3. The Bios should load. Under the "Advanced" menu, select "Built-in Device Options."
4. Scroll down to reveal two options (which must be ticked):
- "Wake unit from sleep when lid is opened" (tick it)
- "Power on unit when lid is opened" (tick it)
5. Save and exit

Hope this helps someone.
