bios date 7/6/2015 :
Booting Tahr64-6.05 CD in Legacy mode works, but in ufei mode vesa driver extensions not loaded, so no video. when installed on hdd or usb key--not detected no OS installed or a grub prompt, when installing grub, boot flag not detected, bootstrap.* not installed on hdd nor usb. pretends not enough room on ext2 format. what am I not doing?

you may want to ask your question in the consumer side of the HP Forums. This is the Business Forum. The BIOS in our consumer products is typically very different than the commercial laptops and you may need assistance from technical people familiar with consumer systems. There is a "Notebook boot and lockup" forum that might be more appropriate, or even the "Notebook hardware and upgrade questions" forum
