Well well well...The problem with the webcam on HP laptops appears to be quite common !
Well folks, obviously there is No point in having a laptop that doesnt function properly, in other words I am going to return this laptop.

Some of you will find that the camera has come unplugged behind the screen frame. The wire used on some models is a bit too short and will work loose.
This is a design flaw but also a simple fix if you can't wait for a replacement unit....
Here is an image that will help you followed by a link showing how to remove the screen bezel on most HP units (you only need to unsnap the top portion to reach this plug)
Look at Step 3 on this link

RESOLVED! I had the same problem and upgraded and reinstalled and checked the software and drivers, etc. Nothing worked. Juast got more and more frustrated. Searched the internet until I came across this post. It was THE KEY. This worked. Took my guitar pick and just snapped the bezel open at the top. At first I didn't even think the cable was disconnected. But I pushed it up just to make sure with the pointed side of a bamboo skewer and it moved just a tiny bit. Put the battery back in and powered it up and suddenly my webcam came alive.
I thank God for sites like this and users that provide excellent step by step directions. It irritates me to no end that HP does not engineer better nor inform their customers of potential issues once they are brought to light. I would respect HP more if they were more proactive. But as a result of this, I will probably not buy another HP laptop again.

Thank you, for a week now, I haven't been able to get my webcam to work, and thanks to about 30 secs of reading, and following directions........It Works!!!! Thanks so much
It only took me a week of looking to find this solution that only took seconds!!
