Hello,

i have a pavilion g6. it is just under a year and half. The battery like used to be great up until around a month a go. now whenever i take it off the mains adaptor it only last for about half an hour, but i dont get a battery low warning it just turns itself off. Anyone else have this problem and know how to fix it??

Help with this would be appreciated as i am at uni and cannot afford a new laptop 😞

You don't need a new laptop; you may need a new battery---HP can sell you one, but you can get cheaper on the WWW. Find the battery model number--find the replacement at HP---then search for a cheaper one! Many PC-weenies suggest the ultimate battery lasting rule: 40 at 40.
Use a battery until 40% store it in the fridge (in a Ziploc bag) at 40 Deg F--made my laptop's battery last 2 years and counting---if it stays at my desk---the battery is in the fridge.
Good luck

my laptop worked well for about an year without any battery issues. but now battery isnt able to retain charge even for 20 mins. it only works when ac adaptor is connected to it and when i remove the ac adapter the computer continuos to work for 20 min or so and switches off without any battery updates(like 11% left please charge etc).

many time even if i connect the ac adaptor it shows "plugged in but not charging".

i am completely unable to find whether its a battery issue or a software issue.

PLEASE HELP(COMMENT) IF YOU KNOW THE SOLUTION OF THIS PROBLEM. CANT AFFORD TO PURCHASE NEW LAPTOP....

Hello Apoorva12,

You are stating your battery only lasts for 20 minutes, is that correct? I will be happy to help you with this issue.

Can you please provide the full make and model of the computer you have, I you are unsure where to locate that information have a look at this link for help if needed.

Looks as if this is a common problem, and that basically the batteries as supplied are not up to standard. I've been a Dell user until my last one died and I decided to try something different. However, when my partner's 5 year-old Dell battery gave up the ghost, we found that the one in my two year old dead one was a match, and two years on is still working perfectly. Ergo, the batteries in the g6 are not fit for purpose. Sadly, as with other things that go wrong, like the thing that caused our car engine to need a complete rebuild, if a known fault is not going to result in law suits (like the Dell battery that was recalled because they caught fire) manaufacturers sit on their hands and expect the customer to pick up the bill for substandard parts.

I decided that moaning was not going to solve my problem & contacted HP. The have been extremely helpful & are sending me a replacement battery foc.
