I have a HP Pavilion g6-1117tx notebook (Win 7 Home Basic 64 bit, BIOS version-Insyde F.66  24.01.2013) purchased in Jul 11.  For the last two months I have had the problem of "Plugged in Not charging" message, which has now turned to "No battery detected". I have tried all means including hard reset, uninstalling Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery" and the "Microsoft Battery Adapter" after removing my battery and plugged in on mains.  No change observed.

Tried running HP Support Assistant (ver 7.0.39.15, Configuration file 7.0.3386.1538), but it crashed on battery check.

Now I have purchased a new HP MU06 battery.  But still the same message of "No battery detected" is seen.

What should I do now?

Thanking you

Tx SuperMario for the suggestion.

I have tried the step of "Hard reset, BIOS Reset, System Recovery" in that order as mentioned in the page.  It is not working.

I have observed the following though: -

(a) The system does not start up on battery.  But the battery charging indicator light on the right side of the laptop goes amber while on AC power for some time.  After some time being on AC power, the light goes to blinking white indicating "low battery power".

(b) The power meter on the taskbar indicates "Plugged in Not charging" while the above light is amber in colour, but turns to "Battery Not Detected" while the light changes to blinking white.

Should I contact HP service centre?

Thanx

I have a little more troubleshooting for to try, before you contact HP over the phone. I'm just going to listen to these steps here:

1. Shut down and power off the laptop.

2. Unplug the AC plug from laptop.

3. Remove laptop battery.

4. Reconnect AC plug to laptop

5. Turn laptop on properly.

6. Go into Device Manager.

7. Under the Battery section, uninstall all Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery and Microsoft AC Adapter devices. To do that, right-click on each, and select Uninstall.

8. Shut down and power off laptop.

9. Unplug AC plug from laptop.

10. Reinsert laptop battery.

11. Connect AC plug to laptop.

12. Turn laptop on properly. The computer will automatically reinstall the battery entries you previously uninstalled.

13. Drain the battery and recharge it.

14. Ensure the battery remains cool while recharging.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, call HP at 1-800-474-6836, and they will explain what options they have, based on your warranty status. You can check your warranty here: http://h20565.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/public/wc/home?ac.admitted=1381953297540.876444892.492883...

Please let me know the end result you experience. Also, it would be greatly appreciated if you mark this post with a Kudos and Accepted Solution if this information helps you in some way.

Tx SuperMario1 for the suggestion.  I have tried the steps and they did not help.  Therefore I contacted the HP Service Centre and they diagnosed the problem to that of defective motherboard.   I am lost for reasons for this situation in a laptop which is barely two years old.  I came to know about a similar situation which warranted motherboard change from a colleague of mine on his laptop also within the first 3 years itself.

I will be writing about this defect quoting the service centre reference to HP India to let them know about this defect so that atleast they can have a thorough scrutiny to rule out basic mismatch problems in the configuration.

Has been an ardent HP fan so far but this incident along with the performance reports of other laptops available in the market from people around has shaken my confidence on HP laptops and is making me look at the alternates available in the market rather than go in for a motherboard change now.

Anyway thanx for your timely suggestions

Regards

I have solved my problem by changing the motherboard.  One observation I have is that this issue and / or its related issues are very common with this series of notebooks of HP.  One google search with "HP Pavilion g6 battery not charging" will throw up many such problems being faced by users.  However, HP had confirmed to me that there is no hardware issue with the laptop g6 as an overall product.

This need to be relooked into by HP seriously considering the number of such defects being reported.

I have the identical problem, can it be solve?

FIXED!!!!!! I had this problem, i noticed mine wouldnt even charge a brand new battery. I fixed it by heatgunning the motherboard where the battery connector is located. I had a feeling there was a cold joint at the connector and i was right. Just 5 minutes of heatgunning and about 30 minutes to pull the laptop apart is all you need, that is if you tried everything else...
