I just upgraded my HP Pavbilion dvg 1090eos to 4 gb RAM. However it says only 3gb is utilized. After som research on the net I relize that I should uprgade my windows to a 64 bit but I don't know if the cpu can handle it.

So the cpu is an intel pentium dual core T4200 with 2ghz but I can't find more information then that.

Anyone who knows?

Hi:

Below is the link to the processor specs for the T4200.

It is indeed 64 bit capable.

However, don't be misled that just because you have a 64 bit processor and a 64 bit operating system that windows will now see and use all 4 GB of memory.

In order for that to be true, your notebook's chipset also needs to be able to support at least 8 GB of memory (even if only 4 GB is installed).

THANK YOU! 🙂

Yes the laptop is upgradable to 8gb which is one of the reasons why I found it so strange that I would not be able to install windows 7 64 bit.

Should I download new drives for the bios?

You're very welcome.

There is no need to update the BIOS to move to a 64 bit operating system.

I would never update the BIOS unless you first read all of the release notes to see if there are any fixes or enhancements the BIOS update provides that your either need or want to have.

As you know, flashing the BIOS is a very risky proposition which can end up bricking your notebook.

So, it you are currently happy with it, and it is working nicely, there is no need to update the BIOS.

Again thank you!

Yes I have heard about that 🙂

Ok so I'll just upgrade everything else then.

I'm assuming I can't just upgrade the windows and keep everything as it is but that I need to do a clean installation.

HP Recommended

That is correct.

You have to reinstall everything to change to a 64 bit operating system (clean install).

No way around it.

Ok! Got it all figure dout now 🙂

Thank you!
