Hurray It Worked!!!
I upgraded from an Intel i3-330m @ 2.13ghz to an i520m 2.40ghz w/turbo tech running @ 2.93 max.
now my quest is to try the i7-640m 2.80ghz w/turbo tech that max out at 3.46ghz which will maybe be max cpu upgrade for this laptop. as i stated earlier though the cpu-z stats and the hp manual say the -7-720qm and 820qm will work, they didnt so no chance of a quad core solution for this motherboard and finding another motherboard has been trying. My windows 7 score went from 6.3 up to 6.8 with this cpu upgrade so i can imagine the boost of going to the i7 cpu next. Basicly I feel that this board will only use the Intel Arrandale processor only. so heres the link to the Intel website to view processor comparisons to which you will try for your cpu upgrade. : http://ark.intel.com/compare/47341,43544,49666,50179,43560,47663.

well it seems trial and error is the way to go since we have limited advice to processor upgrades from the OEM's on this subject. So far i've tried the i7-820qm as listed in online manual just to see failure only flashes the audio slider liights so had to revert to the old processor. after more research i ordered a i5-520m to see if i may have sucsess with it when it gets here. next i will try an i7-620m or i7-640m but it seems that these are all arrendale processorsand may work for speed but not likely to get the thrill of upgrading to a quad on this motherboard. with no help from hp or intel support this seems to be the only option to get more life out of a 3 year old laptop thats out of warranty anyway. I will mod this thread as i get the results and maybe it will help others with the big question of how far we can upgrade.

Barring all this - just check which processor options are offered with you model and buy the fastest one on the list.

thx did all that and it seems we are on our own when it comes to getting info about laptop hardware upgrades as if theres no money to be made by the OEM's its pretty much do it yourself and see type support lol so im waiting for next cpu i ordered to get here to try it and cross my fingers it works. as stated ithink any arredale cpu will work with this board but wont know till new cpu gets here. i will post results in hope it will help other hardcore upgraders to which type to get. intels sit gives all the goods to match up specs for comparison so i noticed at least 5-6 that may work just couldnt afford the best of the group so ordered 2nd best lol still will be a nicer speed than present. just dissapointed i cant go quad with this board though H55m chipset 45w as to original is @ 35w though same socket 988 match in cpuid may be a voltage diff which shameful the bios doesnt allow any mods or changes to any stuff to up or lower voltage or clock speed. sucks made for a noob all auto set

Hello,
Noting that the selected notebook, the HP Pavillion dv6-2150us has Integrated Graphics only for your specific configuration, here's what you should know concerning upgrades:
1. You can only upgrade to Dual Core Intel Arrandale processors. These come with Intel HD Graphics (Ironlake GMCH), all the way from Intel Core i3 330M to the high end Intel Core i7 620M.
2. You CANNOT upgrade to the Intel Quad Core i7's (Clarksfield) processors on your current motherboards. This is because these CPUs do NOT have Integrated Graphics, and your M/B lacks Discrete Graphics. The same case applies for ALL laptops with Switchable Graphics powered by Intel Arrandale processors. Should you attempt such an upgrade, you'll be greeted by a reboot loop and flashing lights since your BIOS cannot initialize the CPU in your case.
For such motherboards, they insist that the CPU have the 45nm IGP die and interconnects for the Intel FDI (Flexible Display Interface) , hardware you won't get on the Clarsfield Quad-Core i7s since they explicitly rely on Discrete GPUs.
Hope that helps.
