Try this, (works for ubuntu) add a start up application -- System > Preferences > Startup Applications

Click Add

Name is anything (like "start audio daemon")

command = "/usr/bin/pulseaudio" Without the qoutes

save and reboot. viola

 

I still havent found the best driver to get the built in sub to play, but i at least have audio for the most part

  1. The model of my computer is an HP Pavilion dv7, so I added the following line:
    options snd-hda-intel model=hp-dv7-4000

    in the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf file

  2. Restart your computer
