Today, I was prompted by the HP Support Assistant software that a BIOS update was available, so I had the application download and install the update. When the computer came back up, it is stating the a boot device cannot be found.
Ugh.
Can anyone help me with this?
I have an HP ENVY TouchSmart m7-j010dx Notebook PC running Windows 8.1. Laptop was functioning just fine prior to the update, which means I probably shouldn't have allowed the BIOS update.

I figured out the problem (for me, anyway).
1) Go into the BIOS configuration settings (F10 from your black screen).
2) Renable the 'Legacy Boot Options' and save your changes.
As soon as I did that, it booted right back into Windows.

For what it's worth, I replaced the factory hard drive with an SSD drive, but that has been working just fine as well.
I attempted to follow the instructions in this document:
http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02693833
The power LED is still on and the screen is still blank 20 minutes later, but the blue LED at the upper-right corner of the caps lock key flashes twice every 3 seconds. The process is supposed to take less than a minute before you'll see something on the screen, but it is still blank.
I am afraid to power it off or try anything else, in case it is actually doing something.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

A million thanks your way bkron! Updated the BIOS on my Plant Manager's Laptop. My heart crashed through the floor when I got the "Boot device not Found" The Drive is Encrypted and I just knew I lost all his data!
It would be nice if HP would have put the F10 option there so I could feel like I at least had a chance of recoverying the machine. Tried http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02693833 but it never came up. Then I happened upon this forum post and cried tears of joy after the F10 worked and then I was able to change it to legacy boot.
I then got an Operating Secure Boot Mode Change (021). All I had to do was accept the changes by putting in the 4 digit number and pressing Enter. TrueCrypt came up and I did about 20 fist pumps! WOOT
Thank you for your help!
