1. Product Name and Number
HP EliteBook 8460p
2. Operating System installed (if applicable)
Windows 7 64-bit
4. Any changes made to your system before the issue occurred
manually updated BIOS (22 Dec 2011 - F.22) and firmware (13 Feb 2012 - 7.1.30.1142)
these wre made because of the booting failure and/or message suddenly appearing on boot - "BIOS failed to update" (auto BIOS recovery launched but did not solve the problem).
currently I'm getting this message while booting - "ME - BIOS sync error - aborting"
is there a solution to fix this?

If you are able to access the UEFI environment you should be able to rollback the BIOS update.
When powering on the notebook tap the Esc key and in the menu that appears select F2 for UEFI. When you press the F2 key an Advanced System Diagnostic menu should become visible. Select BIOS Management and in the nex screen select BIOS rollback.

Hi, Dean, thanks for the reply
unfortunately, after successfully rolling back from F.22 to F.20 did not help, and the "ME - BIOS sync error- aborting" still reapears on the boot. (I also tried BIOS go by default settings)
is there a way to get rid of "Intel Manager Engine Interface" that is causing all this?
or to uninstall and then reinstall the newest one to try the fix the problem? (could you please guide me through this operation as well?). I use this PC only for HOME environment..
your time is much appreciated.
p.s. is this 'ME- BIOS sync' out of order is a serious threat and may lead to damaging my machinery?
or can it be ignored till there will be a solution online - new BIOS update or smth?

Are you able to boot into Windows in Safe mode?
You can update the Intel Managememt Engine framework and software from within safe mode.
Press the power button and then start tapping F8
Can you enter BIOS? Go to the ATM options (SIC) and make sure all of the boxes do not have ticks in them except the Terminal emulation mode, which should be ANSI.

I will have to wait until the image is viewable. It must be approved by a Moderator.
I am certain that the ATM was a mispelling and should have been AMT.

anyways, looks like I have only one option here - "initiate CIRA". even if this is blinked out I can initiate CIRA manually with F2 and then F3 or smth If I need to (so far I didn't see the point)
heres all my BIOS menu, mostly I cannot eccess anything somehow..:

I would leave that unticked. It is for client initiated remote access.
