The laptop is a HP-Compaq 6735B Model: AT716US.
it's a friend's cousin's laptop i have been put in charge of repairing. Initially the only problem was that this notebook had a virus. So her cousin thought it would help to remove the hard drive cover/plate and remove the hard drive...And it appears the she not only bent some of the connector pins on the motherboard connection, but she also broke part of the plastic inlet the hard drive rests against.
Is there anyay to fix this? replacement parts? Bending the pins back? (a long shot i know) or is this thing just toast with that damaged connector?

Pankay,
it's Inside the Hard drive bay; Some of the Hard drive connector pins (the ones attached to the motherboard or motherboard moduel) are bent down, and the plastic piece/inlet that should line up with the 'L' shaped connectors on the hard drive is partiall broken off; So the hard drive isn't recognized by the computer (because it can't connect properly) there isn't even a hard drive activity light when the system boots
(i don't know exact names as to what HP would call it)

It might be just the cables.. that attached to the board.. you can replace the cable...
are you ready to disassemble the PC??
here is the Instruction Guide

It is a 6735. There are pins/connectors on the motherboard itself. If these are bent you can try to bend them back into shape. If you can't, it needs a new motherboard. The hard drive caddy does not have a connector it plugs right into the adapters on the motherboard. There are no cables.

This seems to be very similar to the problem I have with an HP Pavillion zv5160us. The original hard drive went and I ordered an identical drive. While trying to remove a screw from the casing that holds the drive, my screw driver slipped and scratched the shiny vinly looking film that lines the bottom of the space where the drive rests. It also created a small puncture at one spot in the vinyl.
To my knowledge, this is the only problem; i.e., no bent pins, etc. I assembled the new drive into the housing and inserted it into the opening. When I started the laptop with restore disk #1 in the CD drive, the drivers loaded and Windows attempted to partition and format the new drive. At that point, everything just stopped and would go no further. I eventually received these error messages:
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM
Is my new hard drive bad or is the vinyl bottom actually a cable and the scratch and puncture to it the problem? Or is the problem something totally unrelated.
Need help as I have purchased a new hard drive; a new memory module; and new recovery disks (couldn't find the old ones if there ever were any). Hate to totally lose my investments! Any help appreciated.
