Hi there, I get this message (The operating system did not shutdown cleanly) every time I try to resume from sleep after having pressed the sleep button too soon (10-15 mins?) before...
I recently updated my graphics driver from the Intel website (Intel HD Graphics 4000), since I was having trouble with the brightness buttons after resuming, but this is worse! Also I think it happening before I updated the driver.
Anyone have any ideas? I sure hope I don't have a bad GPU.
Specs: Envy 4t A9G89AV; Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit; 3rd generation Intel Core i5-3317U Processor(1.7 GHz) + Intel HD Graphics 4000; 6GB 1600MHz DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm); 500GB 5400 rpm Hard Drive; 32GB mSSD Hard Drive Acceleration Cache
I wonder if this could be because I personalized the Envy 4t to bring it up to a ultrabook (i.e., like the Envy 4). Would have hoped all the available options would have also been compatible. Thanks in advance for you help!
Emily

Only install the graphics driver from the HP web support portal download section or from the recovery manager for best results.
What do you mean by "personalized" the Envy 4?

Hi, OK. I'll do a driver roll-back to see if that helps...
Do you have a solution for the problem of the brightness keys not working upon resume?
I meant that I bought the Envy 4T off the HP website, but customized/upgraded it to match the specs of the Envy 4.

That may be something that a BIOS update has resolved . What is your complete notebook product name?

Hi there, thank you for working on this with me.
The product is "HP ENVY Sleekbook 4t-1000" and I customized it with the features stated above.
I'll wait for instruction from you before doing the rollback.
Thanks again,
Emily

Hi,
There are indeed BIOS updates released and available that are fixes for the Ivy Bridge CPU that related to graphics problems your notebook has had. Once you install the BIOS update the problems should no longer be an issue.
I recommend that you update to the current version.
There have been two updates since release to market.
The latest BIOS update includes the enhancements of both updates after the original version.
One of the most pleasant things about your notebook having the UEFI environment is that updating the BIOS is a safe process and that it can actually be rolled back if needed. Notebooks before UEFI did not have that capability at all.

OK, done. I'll test today and let you know how it goes.
Is there a way to ensure that I know about these important updates? (They don't seem to be coming through Windows Update.)
Thanks again for all your help!

You are welcome.
Use the HP Support Assistant once in a while. Run the Tune-up application once a month and you will see if there are drivers or updates that HP recommends you to install.
